But the lower order doing very well in comparison to before, compensates it to some extent, although they won’t even collectively touch half of what Pant could do.
Lower order won’t bail us out overseas particularly in the absence of Pant . Shreyas is Jayawardene type player . Don’t expect much from him in SENA condition .

I know it won’t come close to half of what Pant was, but the Ind’s lower order
batting decently can’t harm them atleast

Blame should also go to OP for starting a thread without giving exact duration . So everyone is using his favourite time frame to pump up his side and downplay others .
Am sure 46% of people who voted India took the longer run into consideration. Or to be more precise they took the last time India played the big sides into consideration before voting for India.

Form coming into 2023 can be anything. It could be India's domination in last five years that is still continuing or it could also be England's new found rhythm in test cricket that has taken its opponents by surprise in a very efficient manner.

Imo NZ would still be favourites at home against IND . Current Indian team doesn’t know how to play moving ball . But as long as other results in our favour , we will continue to be a top side . However Bazball is certainly the biggest challenge we are facing in last 8 years .
NZ would only be favourites because they whitewashed India last time, their current side is a shadow of older side. they went from defeating England home and away to losing away and now look like they'll lose at home too, its how much they have declined. i'd fancy India's chances to achieve better results than last time even with our **** top order

NZ need Jamieson back, sensible selections, young players to perform well, and India could still whitewash us here.

England have already won in SL and PAK . Their challenge is IND and AUS now . Just like our challenge is in NZ/SA/ENG for now
And WI and Bang. Especially WI.

Eng last won in WI in 2004 and that is their only series win there in the last 50-60 years.

Eng won in Aus in 2010-11 and Ind in 2012. Ind won in Eng in 2007 and NZ in 2009. These are all after 2004.

So I don't see how Eng's challenge can be Ind/Aus and Ind's can include NZ/Eng but Eng's doesn't include WI.

And for all the talks about WI being weak etc, time and again strong teams have gone their and lost. It hasn't happened just once but has been happening continuously. KP, Cook, Anderson, Broad etc etc have never won a series in WI (Anderson was in the 04 squad but didn't play a game).

Re-reading the thread title, in 2023 India is 2-0 (all at home), England is 1-0 (all in NZ) and West Indies are 1-1 (all in Zimbabwe).

These are my 3 main contenders rn.

Not just that. But in the last two series in England, WI won live tests in England and England had to win the final test to win the series. WI haven't come remotely close to doing the same in India or Australia.

No , it isn’t. Current can’t be more than 1 years ago . And on the basis of last 10 months performance, England have performed better than India .

Be honest , our lower order won’t bail us out in SENA conditions . So , our team certainly needs atleast 3 to 4 change .

However , we will get more clear ans based on how Ashes go and how India perform in RSA this year . And still if we don’t get clear ans , next year Test series between IND- ENG would decide the winner .
Agree with all of this
