this thread is good, but i think it would be only fair to compare batsmen as well :) lets say S Waugh, Ponting and Hayden to Yohanna, Inzy and umar....

Sounds like a good idea for a new thread if anything? *shrugs*

Or you could try and be fair and include the likes of Miandad, but then again since he's better than all 3 of those Aussies, you wouldn't like that.

out of these 2, i would pick the pakistani attack in their prime. however, overall, i would pick the devastating 80s windies attack and none of these 2 come close to the 80s windies attack with marshall and co.

on another note, can anybody tell which country does everyone originally belong to. masterblaster confused tooextracool as an indian when he was an englishman and tooextracool confused masterblaster as an australain when he was an indian.

Wasim, Waqar, McGrath, Gillespie

Now that would be an awesome attack.

A genuine tearaway in Waqar (in his prime), a swing king in Wasim, an accuracy dynamo in McGrath and with the intensity and heart of Gillespie.
I am not sure you would have left out Imran if you had seen him at his prime . He was really fast . Once , I think the first time such an excercise was undertaken, he was measured as the fastest bowler in the world.

PLUS

He swung a helluva lot (which you cant even dream of today) and did it very late. During some of his spells, even watching from the comforts of one's seata, he looked frighteningly unplayable and that was not because of his speed alone, believe me.

I am an Indian so you can trust this is a genuine appreciation and not hyperbole 8-)

Imran is the best of the six listed. If I was to rank them it would be (each at his peak ...so far)

1. Imran
2. McGrath
3. Waqar
4. Akram
5. Gillespie
6. Lee

I know their are many who would claim 1st spot for Mcgrath but i doubt if those who have seen both at their prime would do so. Then there are those who prefer Wasim to Waqar but again Waqar at his peak was much more devastating and effective a destroyer of batting line ups. His strike rate , in spite of the last stretch, is an all time best for any bowler with over 200 wickets.

As my avatar says mate, I am Indian and I support India, but I live in Australia.

Imran Khan totally slipped out of my mind, so that was an honest mistake.

Imran, Waqar, Wasim and McGrath would be my ideal bowling attack, with Imran and Wasim adding so much to the batting department as well.

If I was Australian, why on earth would I have an Indian jersey for my avatar?

Im Indian and definitely proud of it. Infact I work for the Indian Section on CW,

*After a long time (due to uni commitments) a new feature article is in the works*
*Look out for that one*

I think people get confused because of the places we live in. I never would've assumed that tooextracool was an englishman, because very few english people live in India.

But Australia (like England) is very multicultural and you can expect Indian's (33,000 of them in melbourne) to live here.

Oh yeah tooextracool,

I believe that Sachin Tendulkar not Ricky Ponting is the greatest batsman I have ever seen play and is the greatest batsman of my generation (since watching cricket from 1987),

also

I believe that Wasim Akram is the greatest fast bowler of all time and the greatest swing bowler of all time and not Glenn McGrath!

:)

Cheers,

Sangrah

the most common way to get out besides "run-out"?? lbw wasim akram. akram consistently attacked those three sticks and the other end of the pitch like no-one else did. i dont believe comparing lee and gillespie to akram and younis is fair at all because lee and gillespies careers are not at an end... yet. haha and dont try to compare ANY indian pace attack to these two particular groups.
i am aussie but have to say that if u have to compare then id pick the pak trio for their fullfiling careers and uniqueness to always go for the stumps... and also for the way they re-defined swing bowling (akram n younis - the masters of reverse)

Imran adds a lot with the bat, but Wasim doesn't add that big a deal IMO - a good number 9 and at times brutal, but not one I'd rely on.

The latter perhaps. The former I disagree.

masterblaster, i see your point. earlier, i too confused tooextracool as an indian, but it was only on reading an earlier post that i found out that tooextracool was an englishman. out here in india, there are a few englishmans, americans and japani people living here besides some people from neighbouring countries like sri lanka, bangladesh, nepal, bhutan.

however, there are a few indians living abroad in places like australia and your avatar tells all about you that you are a true indian fan and as you said, you are proud to be an indian.

Are you sure Ricky Ponting is not the greatest batsman and Glen McGrath is not the greatest bowler.

Have you thought this out properly and looked at it from all angles.

Lillee and Thommo were part of a quartet for some time....I think.......of course they were the dominant members, but I think they had Lillee, Thompson, Gilmour and Walker at the same time....

He presumably have, and knowing Masterblaster, he is not one to make comments lightly.

Of course , the above bowlers are not a patch on the pace trio of Pingu , Flippy and Dumbo who represented the Antarctica cricket team in the fall of '56.

Wasim does have Double century against Zim in test, I haven't seen much of imran but wasim was a big hitter

Yes, the key words there are "against Zimbabawe"

Isn't that the same game that Saqlain got a ton?
