This. At 30 from 30 nearly all hope was gone. And then everyone moment from Bumrah’s right over to Klaasen’s brain fade to Bumrah’s last over where he got Jansen out to Arshdeep’s clutch over to SKY’s catch: was nerve wracking as hell.

And this was the better win as well as we were undefeated, a lot of teams were competing, and during to the nature of the pitches in the first half, it was probably the most competitive T20 WC till date.

2007 was a ****ing great memory but we only needed 1 wicket to win the match then and despite Misbah fighting hard 13 from 6 wasnt something that was as tilted towards batsmen like it is now

2024 had only 1 boundary in the last 5 overs on a flat pitch and that was from a bowler edging it, thats unreal in this day and age of t20 cricket

2007 was pretty dramatic too towards the last 2-3 overs but only because of Misbah.

Pakistan needed 54 runs off 4 overs, then Misbah helped get 34 runs off the next 2 overs. Then needing 20 off 2 overs with 2 wickets in hand looked possible. But then RP Singh bowled a great 19th over including picking up the 9th wicket. It helped seal the match.

Agree on quality. Harbhajan bowled a real trash 17th (?) over, Joginder could barely breathe when bowling the final over and Misbah played an ill advised shot when it should have been really easy for Pakistan to get home against a mediocre bowler.

Bumrah's genius as a bowler and Surya's unbelievable catch made the just concluded one more dramatic. As discussed in several posts above, India - Pakistan was far more balanced. This one was really done and dusted in SA's favor before the incredible last 5 overs happened.

For sheer nostalgia and novelty factor though, the 1st T20 WC stands out.

This pretty much. Pakistan were out of the game until Misbah let loose. Even then, it was a given that as soon as Misbah falls, India would win.

In the final against SA, SA needed 30 runs in 5 overs, with 6 wickets remaining. That is a ridiculously easy win for SA and almost impossible to conjure a win from against half decent team. So this recent triumph far more dramatic IMO.

Game was mostly not in balance.
Pakistan were 77/6 off 12 overs.
Then 104/7 off 16 overs.

Looked a straightforward India win till Misbah's sixes. Needing 54 off 4 overs is a lot.

This one. Plenty of non-political subtext involved, as opposed to an Indo-Pak encounter with its usual unsavory baggage, which made it a particularly intriguing game of cricket; teams repeatedly falling at the final hurdle, the desperation in the Indian camp to win a big prize after last year especially with retirements looming, the way the game itself played out and SA capitulating true to history with redemption in touching distance. Tragic or cathartic based on your way of looking at things.
