Probably this has been done before but can't find the older thread. So, thought about starting a new discussion.

Although not necessary, I am including all the major test teams for the sake of argument.

So, which team do you think is the best?

Let's see

Best batsman: Bradman
Best fast bowler (arguably): McGrath
Best spinner (arguably): Oreilly, Warne
Best all rounder (arguably): Miller
Wk/batsman : Gilchrist
Pure keeper (arguably): marsh, Healey, talon
Left arm fast bowler (arguably) : Davidson

Yup except for openers, Australia have pretty much all their bases covered.

Head to Head record between Australia ?? and England ??????? was 87-86 Match Wins untill 1987 Ashes. From 1989-2022 Australia ?? and England ??????? record has been 53-22 Match Wins. It means Australia ?? won 70% of the Matches from 1989 in Ashes. England ??????? could not dominate Australia ?? in Modern Cricket ? after the Fall of Ian Botham.

No Barrington but Pietersen makes the XI… right.

Mine would be ftr

Hobbs
Sutcliffe
Hutton*
Hammond
Barrington
Root
Botham
Knott+
Laker
Trueman
Barnes

Bowling still feels a little weak, could perhaps swap Root and Anderson. Or I could just assume Barnes = fast spinner and put Anderson in over Laker.

Either way Barnes needs the new ball with Fred or he’ll sulk all game.

i wont go for Barrington as he was a very defensive player, want to go with pietersen. I don't want England XI to be filled completely with players from Stone Age
Your choice, but unlike Australia, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan a pre 70’s England XI would wipe the post 70’s XI off the park, simple facts.

I agree that pre 70s England was one of the top 2 Teams. But some Individual players were outstanding in post 70s like Botham for a decade so if i form a team with them they are still very strong.
