It's like saying you made cricket popular in Goondawindi - it's a nice effort, and you had some influence, but at the end of the day if the bloke had never come along, the game wouldn't be any the poorer as a sport or spectacle. Belongs on Mount Rushmore as much as the secretary of my local cricket association.

Was good for protractor sales though.

Not sure you can understand Muralis actual influence in Sri Lanka without being a sri lankan.

He was pretty much the only Tamil universally admired in Sri Lanka while therected was a civil war going against the Tamil tigers. The fighting stopped during cricket matches partly because even the LTTE felt a connection to the team.
