Yes I have argued he was generally good in SA but his great tour was in SA 2011.

Second favourite stance behind Shiv for me
I have him as the 3rd best aussie batsman to debut batting 7 or lower (Bradman and Greg Chappell both debuted at 7)
Chappell is similar to Smith actually in that he was playing as one of the 4 bowlers. He only batted 7 as Rod Marsh dropped down to 8. I guess Smith wasn't considered a better bat than Tim Paine at the time so had to bat below him
