The weather talk getting outta hand England were the better team in 2005 and was a crazy achievement beating that Australian side and breaking their ashes losing streak. England can blame the weather all they want but they didn’t take their chances the first two tests this series. They were betting odds favourites during the end stages of those tests. If they were on the other end in the last test they’d be dancing around with piers Morgan by now

2005 Ashes 5th test match needs to be talked about more for me, Australian players never had a chance to express themselves about the result.

What about the 3rd Test slippy?
It is interesting that the most convincing performance in 05 from England didn’t end up in them winning.

Had The Oval played an extra two days you probably would’ve been favoured to defend 340. But given when the rain fell the game would’ve almost certainly looked different if there was provisions to play a full 450 overs.

Oh yeah Australia’s whole game approach was changed by the rain at The Oval. Freddie’s mammoth spell was fantastic but back then batsmen were offered the light and there was no way they could take it.
