I love how the people whingining about Kaspa are from NSW. And who do they put up as alternatives - more Blues (Nicholson and Bracken) Grow up, take off your blue tainted glasses and see that there are other players outside of NSW that are worthy of playing for Australia.

Unfortunately I'd have to agree with the dumping of Bichel. He has not been bowling well for a while now and seems down on confidence, A few state games will be the best for him. He will bounce back.

All well and good that its your opinion mate - but people are open to disagree with you, so don't spit the dummy when they do.

Mavrick41 - Don Ricardo and I are both from NSW, and we agree with Kaspers selection ;)

Nice to see that not all of you are one eyed down there.:D :D
Haha

To be honest, hard work gets its just rewards - I don't think anyone in the country deserves a place more than Kasper, and those who doubt it simply have no idea about the bloke and his work ethic - let alone his talent.

From an English perspective, I'd agree with this.

I sometimes wonder about the way Anderson was thrown into a pretty heavy workout this English summer. Whether it might have had a bad effect on him in terms of confidence.

To draw another comparison, the selection of Kasper reminds me of the selection of Bicknell for us in the SA series. It seemed to me to just be a stop-gap for a few games. He has been rather consistent for a long time as has Kasper and they are both getting on a bit.

bichel has done nothing and was dropped

This is just a ridiculous thread. Anyone who doesn't think Kaspa deserves his spot is crazy! The guy is a workhorse, who has been a CONSISTENT performer for many years. Here is some proof why he should be chosen:

The candidates -

Ashley Noffke (QLD)

FIRST-CLASS (52)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
1717.5 381 5441 183 29.73 8-24 9 1 56.3 3.16

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (52)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
430 42 1944 57 34.10 4-32 2 0 45.2 4.52

Ok, but not a great record. Is yet to put two good seasons back to back mainly due to injury. His form this year in the one day version has been mixed, one good game against N.S.W. where he took 2/27 (10) has been between some very expensive spells.

Nathan Bracken (N.S.W)

FIRST-CLASS (34)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
1175.4 347 3077 101 30.46 5-22 4 0 69.8 2.61

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (69)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
571 48 2434 97 25.09 5-38 3 1 35.3 4.26

His first-class record is not all that great, and he proved he cannot bowl in the longer version of the game with his pathetic performances in the test matches against India this year. He is injured at the moment, and will probably play ODIs again for Australia in the future, but he should put that baggy green in a bank volt and throw away the key.

Matthew Nicholson (N.S.W.)

FIRST-CLASS (49)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
1663.4 368 5171 177 29.21 7-77 6 0 56.3 3.10

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (24)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
168 11 874 24 36.41 3-49 0 0 42.0 5.20

A couple of years ago the second slip needed wicket keeping gloves to take Nicholson's deliveries. Once again another bowler with a very poor OD domestic record. And could not seriously be considered.

Damien Wright (Tasmania)

FIRST-CLASS (49)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
1674.2 468 4780 151 31.65 6-39 2 0 66.5 2.85

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (54)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
475.3 45 1855 62 29.91 4-23 2 0 46.0 3.90

Also has a decent OD record but nowhere close to as good as Kaspa's.

Paul Rofe (South Australia)

FIRST-CLASS (29)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
1041.2 339 2710 94 28.82 7-52 5 1 66.4 2.60

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (27)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
225.4 21 958 23 41.65 3-33 0 0 58.8 4.24

A fairly good first-class record for someone so inexperienced and you can add another 7 wicket haul he got in the current match against Victoria and a good prospect for the future. But his figures show he is not all that great in the OD game.

Shaun Tait (South Australia)

FIRST-CLASS (10)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
265 44 981 35 28.02 5-68 1 0 45.4 3.70

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (11)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
92.4 6 451 19 23.73 8-43 0 1 29.2 4.86

A fairly impressive record in both forms of the game, but keep in mind 8 of his 19 wickets in the OD game have been taken in one match, which makes his figures look a bit better than they are. We've seen what has happened when a player is brought in too soon, with Clarke shinning at first but starting to struggle with the extra pressure of international cricket.

Michael Kasprowicz (Queensland)

FIRST-CLASS (196)
O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Econ
6736 1574 20700 798 25.93 9-36 45 6 50.6 3.07

LIST A LIMITED OVERS (174)
O M R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
1407 108 6140 221 27.78 5-60 6 1 38.1 4.36

An amazing record for someone who has been playing first-class cricket for over 16 seasons. He is in the form of his life and is bowling with alot of maturity and has a mass of experience. I personally think the selectors are preparing him for the test tour of Sri Lanka. He has been a stalwart of Australian cricket and deserves a consistent crack at an Australian squad.

And anyone who says that he has been given too many chances have a look at his career. He took 5 wickets against India at Bangalore to win Australia a test match and was dropped after one more match in Australia. Whereas Brett Lee struggles to take wickets in an entire Ashes series and is still retained.

I believe that Kaspa can give a good 2-3 years service to the Australian team and then guys like Rofe, Tait, and others will be ready and experienced enough to play for Australia.

The selectors have made the right decision this time.

Kasper has performed against the Indians in India.....might not have grabbed 10 in a mtach but certainly backed up the frontliners well......he knows how to bowl to the Indians...and also, he's not a bad tailender.

I don't quite understand how Kyle can say Wright's record is nowhere near as good as Kasprowicz's - 3.90-an-over is absolutely brilliant.
Are there better bowlers aside from McG and Gillespie in Australia? I certainly can't find any.
As for Bichel having done nothing wrong, can anyone seriously believe that? Bichel's record since WC2003 (especially if you exclude the Bangladesh games) is nothing short of abysmal. Finally, he's been exposed as a bowler not up to ODI cricket.
And this NSW argument is really getting absolutely ridiculous. How outdated are geographical selection biases? At least 30 years.
Kasprowicz sure deserves his selection for his domestic record and most recent ODI series (less than 4-an-over in 2 games) but still, his ODI record is anything but impressive.

Whilst Bichel hasn't performed with the ball as of late, he should of at least got a little longer to prove his form.

Though at the same time, Kasper fully deserves to be selected as he has been performing superbly.

Well the selectors could of given him at least the first final of the VB series to prove his form. If he didn't perform (especially in a finals match), then yes he should be dropped.

i actually dont think Kaspa is experienced or old enough to gain a permanant place in the AUssie teams and shouldnt be picked

my suggestion would be Tom Moody, he could also contribute with the bat (having a highest OD score of 180*)

I would like to see paul Rofe get a run in the Test XI one day (Could be in Sri Lanka or in England in 2009).

The selectors have players that they treat far more favourably than others, usually they are players who "fit" into the overall make-up of the side, the dynamics of the team, and these are usually the more out-going personalities who are given a longer run. This has been discussed at length before, but a number of players have intimated that the selectors pick the so-called "golden-haired boys" regardless of form or fitness.

Have a read of the Taylor Years by Malcolm Knox IIRC, the last chapter touches on this quite significantly...
