In the very last days of WW2, Hitler and what was left of the German High Command were of the belief that an intact army, led by General Wenck, would bust through the Russian hordes and relieve Berlin.

Unfortunately for these wretches, General Wenck was a realist who saw the writing on the wall and decided instead to take his army westward so they could be taken prisoner by the Americans instead of the Russians.

Waiting for something forelorn or hopeless is sometimes called "waiting for General Wenck". An example was the Coalition in last year's federal election in Australia waiting for their "Post-budget bounce" in the opinion polls - it never arrived, another is waiting for Cronulla to win a premiership.

Jack Gibson once famously put it like this:

"Waiting for Cronulla to win a comp is like leaving the front porch light on for Harold Holt".

He'll come done one day :p

But seriously i reckon this year is possibly the chance we have to win the premiership in a long time.

Also thanks for the explanation (y)

One thing I think Cronulla may have in their favour is they've been playing a finals style footy all year.

That may work for them, in that they're used to close, tough games and now how to win them.

Then again, the counter argument is maybe they're playing at or near to full capacity, and they don't have much room to take it to another level.

They do have a pretty good record v Melbourne though, IIRC.
