What does a team need to win in India?

We all know winning a test series in India is the toughest tour in world cricket right now. And ever since England won over there, India has pretty much dominated every team that’s toured since bar a few series.

We’ve had plenty of teams in the past that looked good and had good recent form before heading into a series in India yet they’ve got dominated.

Why is winning a series in India much harder compared to say Australia or England? And what do you believe is the best structure, team, style to win a test series in India?

Only way to win in India is have batsman like S.smith make a Tons of runs.

Pick batsman who can actually play spin.

Load your team up with spiners.

Be Confident in your plans Australia was not fully Prepared or Confident in their last Tour despite being better Team.

You gotta play Bazball , realistically that's your only hope ..Playing conventional cricket just gonna get you eaten up alive by Ashwin and Jadeja ..

Why did England win in 2012?

Firstly they caught India in transition in both the batting and spinning departments. Meanwhile they had 2 ATG English batters when it came to playing spin and two very good spin bowlers themselves. There was a lot of fuss about Dhoni asking for wickets suited for his team but in the end they were relatively good for batting rather than deteriorating from ball one.* Finn and Anderson were also good enough to get something out of the games as well.

So basically while the Indian batting is fragile enough to be expected, as long as Ashwin and Jadeja are around I don't favour any touring side. SA and Australia probably have the spinners but nowhere near the batting ability. The opportunity might arrive when RA and RJ retire but we'll see.

*The pudding served up in the last test was probably what Dhoni's scheming deserved.

Off the back of that, I recalled that Gower had a brilliant record in Asia, indeed he averaged Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com 56 overall but was less successful in India where he averaged 37 and never scored a ton there. He scored two tons in Pakistan and one in Sri Lanka, who were only at the start of their test match playing era.

Schedule ODI series before the test series. Take out Ashwin and Jaddu with beamers. Will be very difficult to win with those two in the Indian team. Not impossible though.

To add to the visiting team's worries, it looks like the batting is getting into shape now with Pujara and Rahane being phased out for Jaiswal and Gill and Kohli too showing semblance of return to form.

England's bazball can probably prove to be a solution. Blast out the pacers on the benign pitches and get off to a racy start. Ash-Jaddu might not have the pressure factor and so, could get hit too.

On the actual cricket front, the biggest issue England are going to have is the spinners. Leach won't have bowled in a proper game for ages, provided he's recovered from his back injury. Then we are likely winging it with other spinners. Let's hope that some actually get some decent game time in September, but that is doubtful when all too often the 10:30 starts inordinately favour the slower seamers.

India will lose a home series only after ashwin and jadeja retire, these two players alone torture the oppositions.

England threw away their wickets to spin in the ashes, so the bazball batting approach needs fine tuning, but could work.

In 2012, Swann and Panesar took a combined 37 wickets at about 26. For India, Ashwin took 14 wickets at 52.

Unfortunately, Ashwin is rarely as rubbish these days.
