what do your 2 sporting ideals have in common

well my to ideals are David Beckham and Tendulkar and the best thing they have in common is that both of them have that both of them carry a large burdan of the team,while there are other great sporting personalities but both teams(Man U and India) don't seem to produce the same magic without them.

Agree with you on the one about Tendulkar carrying his team(perhaps a little unfair on Dravid but nevermind) but Beckham!!If we talk football rather than celebrity he isn't that vital a cog for England or Man Utd. A few seasons ago the way Utd played was through Giggs and Beckham on the wings but recent seasons he been on the fringes.Most fans prefer to see Solskear on the wing and living with two season ticket holders, most agree they'd snap anyones hands of offering them £30 million for him.The system they play now goes straight throguh the middle, as for "that both of them have that both of them carry a large burdan of the team", well just watch the next man u game.

Ive only got one sporting idol, SA's greatest ever bowler Allan Donald...

Always played the game hard on the field, but really personable off it... Came to the fore just when SA needed a quality bowler to carry the attack, and he did so for the best part of a decade...
Had an awesome bowling technique, the purest action i have seen on a bowler, brilliant to watch, and shouldnt be judged by his world cup campaign....

One of my enduring memories of Allan Donald will be his pitch-battle with Mike Atherton a while back which was one of the most ferocious spells of fast bowling I've seen in my short life and also Atherton hanging on by a thread to his wicket. Seem to remember him being out at one point caught behind and it wasn't given and the stare Allan Donald gave Athers made me brick my pants let alone what Atherton was thinking. :O

Yeah i agree with you there, however if he hadnt played in the world cup, the enduring image would have been of him breaking down in Johannesburg in the test match against the Aussies, so he probably wanted to put that right....

I was at the Old Trafford Test match where his last over was not good enough to get rid of Angus Fraser but that spell and the one against Atherton at Trent Bridge were responsible for getting me hooked on cricket....

I know it's a little off topic but being a Man Utd fan I can't understand why so many people are keen to get rid of Beckham. Firstly we can get more than £30m for him (lets face it money talks, in football at least), and secondly he is a vital part of the team. He might not carry them but Solskjaer is a striker not a winger, and we don't have anyone who can replace him.

Six months ago everyone was saying we would sell Giggs, but he was playing the same as normal, and was sensational in the second half of the season. I certainly don't feel we would be the same (ie able to beat Arsenal) without Beckham, Giggs, van Nistelrooy, Keano, Scholesy, etc.

I have only 1 non-cricket sports Idol and it's Michael Jordan. He da man!

I don't know as much about any of my cricketing idols as I do about Jordan, but his hard work, perseverance and consequently his performance influence me all the time.

David Hookes was my first cricketing idol so if I had to pick another sportsman who has something in common with him it'd be Chris Chelios, formerly of the Chicago Blackhawks (now with Detroit). There was never much to their games; just hit things REAL hard. In Hookesy's case it was the cricket ball, in Chelios's case it was the puck/player in front of him.

Tommy Haas and David Coulthard for me. Both are complete under achievers for the talent they have. This time last year Haas was number 2 on the world tennins rankings, this week, number 52 (injuries have ment he hasnt played in 7 months) but hes only won 5 tournaments and no grand slams, which is a shame cause hes so good.
Coulthard- well where to begin, i doubt hes ever going to win an F1 WC now. He looks like leaving McLaren next season, which is a real shame. But he is now number 6 or so on the all time F1 points tally and by far the most successful driver never to win the Championship.
