Time to get rid of Hayden even if he has a few more performances, we need to move on and stop wasting time with him. A tough tour of South Africa could be just the thing Hughes needs to test himself kickstart his career. Highly disagree with any thoughts of including Rogers (who is 1. just not good enough even when in form and 2. past use-by date in terms of age), and Marsh (who is 1. picked originally due to IPL form which is ridculous and 2. has a non worthy FC record). I've always been an advocate of playing 7 batting specialists and 4 bowling specialists because you need players to stick to what they're good at. Hence David Hussey at 6 because he's been in form for quite a couple of seasons now and needs to be rewarded. He also has a couple of years of the now ailing Hodge who is 33ish.
Bowling is slightly more difficult. Four man pace attack is definitely the way to go, especially if the pitch is in favour and spinner isn't offering too much. If we really wanted to pick a spinner, then it MUST be an attacking one because the quality of the spinners we produce now is quite dire so a defensive spinner would have no role, he might be able to pick up 1 or 2 wickets per innings, but then again so could a bunch of part timers. A spinner must be able to take wickets so either Krejza or McGain with the latter pending fitness and or form. Because of this we need to cut Hauritz, even though would mean inconsistent selection, at this stage we have to cut our losses and accept that it was a mistake and move in the right direction, instead of trying to save face and defend the selection by picking him again.
The pace attack should have more variety should definitely a mixture of seamers and swingers would be ideal which is why Hilfenhaus, Noffke and Bracken have been included. I think we should have a system of rotation with this to find our best 4. Firstly we have to find the spots which are locked down by our best already, that is, Clark, Johnson and maybe Lee. So that way we have potentially 2 spots to play with. Siddle will probably bag one, and then we should try maybe Bollinger for 6-7 tests, if he doesn't work out, then try Hilfenhaus etc. At the moment and previously, it seemed they just picked out by random, i.e. when Noffke and Bollinger were leapfrogged last year.
