We established the Shell Cricket Academy a couple of years back.

Last time around it featured players such as:

Dwayne Bravo, Amit Jaggernauth, Denzil James, Kenton Thompson, Mwanghi Broomes, Carlo Morris, Randy Thomas, Ryan Wiggins, Jason Bennett, Krishna Arjune, Derwin Christian, Damodar Daesrath, Brian Stephney, Shawn Findlay, Danza Hyatt, Maurice Kepple, Tamar Lambert, Andrew Richardson, Jerome Taylor, Dwight Washington, Juari Edwards, Tonito Willett, Othneil Baptiste, Greg Francois, Dennis George.

There are a couple of names in that bunch I am positive will play for the West Indies within the next 5 years.

It's the filter, to remove offensive words.
What, so if you wrote eff yuu see kay it would *** it out.
And honestly - whoever heard of g*y being offensive? Sorry, but that's ludicrous.
And why on Earth did it do it with le on the end? Something suggests to me it's slightly malfunctioning.

No, doing that is because we have only just become aware that you can "non-star" words like that when they're part of a longer word.

Thus causing a poor West Indian opening batsman to have his name effectively banned from the boards!:(
Or at least turned into a ludicrousy like ***le.
Honestly!

And Neil still has to tell people off for using the racist British term for brown-skinned people.
If you censor g*y, why the h**l not censor that!

Both changes will be made when James next reads the thread where this is all discussed in the staff forum.

Lara has a pretty big influence as far as I can see. He saw Edwards bowl in the nets, asked for him to be called up and he was.
IMO he shouldnt have a say in selection meetings. It is the job of the selectors.

Or the other option is not to have selectors and let Gus Logie and Lara select the teams and they have their scouts all over the Caribbean and telling them who's bowling well or not (same with batting and 'keeping).

Also one thing that is vital is to introduce a contract system if the funds are available.

They should bring into a 'Level A, B, C' where you are ranked deterimes how much you earn. So for example Lara, Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Jacobs and perhaps Gayle would be Level A and people like Edwards would be Level C.

Exactly. The WICB won't do this though, as they will not want the Carib Beer Cup to be going on while we're having a home series because:

a) It will either draw people away from the International cricket (highly unlikely) or draw people away from the domestic cricket (very likely), causing a big financial loss.

b) They want the Test stars to play as many games as possible, because this will bring people in to see the cricket and consequently bring money into the game.

The big problem with the institution of West Indies cricket is money or lack thereof.
Yet despite proof that making it home & away actually works.

By doing this New Zealand's State Championship's (4d cricket) standard has risen greatly to now.

I disagree - I think the Captain should be asked for his input.

After all, if a team fails, who is the first head on the chopping block?

The place where I do my job , I happen to meet so many cricket fans from around the world . I have some very very good carribean friends of mine who are Truck drivers here and work for my company , One driver was telling me yesterday that he was a fast bowler and was a good FC level player . I asked him about the downfall of cricket . He said that "No money in it Maan " . The officials and the unions dont give enough money to the players and any one who is related to cricket and youngsters either choose to play any American sport or they choose soccer and they say no to cricket now . And I felt one thing that the people I met (who are from cricket playing nations) , The most less interested fans are the WestIndian cricket fans , I dont know why . May be I am wrong but thats what I found . Srilankans, Pakistanis , Africans and english and Aussies and no need to mention "Indian fans" are quite good fans of cricket and like this game , Even A Bangladeshi Cab driver was saying that we kicked Pakistan's Bootie once atleast . I felt it quite nice because cricket is a passion in Bangladesh now . I guess they are gonna emerge as a good cricket nation . Bangladeshi's Srilankans and no need to mention "Indians feel happy to see bully Pakistan lose " . Any ways the less cricket interested public speakers I found were Windians . I guess the "NO money Maan" statement is quite right ..

That's what Atherton always said - as long as you're not on the selection panel, you're not going to be blamed for selections that fail. The bad thing is where you're on the panel but your influence is marginal.
Mark Taylor was the opposite - he wasn't on the panel but basically they "let him take whoever he wanted" in his words to Athers.
Equally, if you and the coach have the majority say that's fair enough.
IMO the best situation is where the selectors pick the team and the captain does his job on the field.
However, the problem is when it chops and changes series by series, as Atherton shows it did with England in the mid 1990s.

And Graeme Wright made the point about ICC's $$$millions.
Can it's global ambitions afford a weak West Indies? The WICB has never been flush; ICC have been throughout recent years.
Surely some subsidy would be a good idea.

But hasnt giving them the world cup been the idea??

And hasnt this backfired, and may set them into millions of $ of debt?

Quite possibly this was part of the idea of giving them WC2007.
And so far it appears it has backfired.
Just a lump-sum donation would be something I would seriously think is worth considering.

I don't think the West Indies should have been given 2007. Perhaps the next one.

However, my motives may be driven by the fact that I'll be in England at Uni during 2007. :)
