Hi there!
I'm new here. But I've been around WCM for quite a few months. Hopefully these, and WCM's, forums will pick up once the screenshots of the game are released. So to help you new guys who wonder what WCM is and what it has in it, I've put together what Glenn has done for the forums and site to make a nice little preview thing.
This is all Glenn's work and not mine, so don't complement me!
So what is World Cricket Manager (WCM) all about?
World Cricket Manager is a cricket management simulation currently being developed for the PC. Born out of frustration at current titles in the category, Glenn Stiemens started the project in December 1998. A couple of rewrites in various languages saw the project eventually turn to C++ and DirectX in 2002. In June 2003, the project was restarted and this message board and a new website
(here) set up, thanks to the hardwork of gio and Andy Best.
When will it be released then?
No current release date has been set, with the game very much still "work in progress".
Please don't post asking for a release date, these posts will most likely be closed or deleted by a mod. When a release date is set, you will be the first to hear.
How much will it cost?
If the quality of the game (once finished) is good enough to warrant a charge then we will make sure that the price is as fair as possible.
Ah great! This all sounds good but where's the evidence. Where are the screenshots and a list of the features?
No screenshots will be available until the GUI has been programmed, work on this is very much on-going and screenshots will be released when they are available. I can though inform you that work on the user interface has begun and that it is looking very promising.
A list of features we plan to to include can be found below:
Planned Features
Manage any county side from England - earn the right to manage test/non-test playing nations.
Correct competition structures and overseas/transfer rules for England.
Enhancement packs planned - these will add new leagues and competitions from other nations. At the start of the game, you will only be able to manage English teams.
Real umpire names and characteristics.
Accurate simulation of both four day and one day matches. CPU managers make accurate and correct decisions based on detailed AI.
Full realistic pitch and weather conditions, that match real life.
Deal with the media - backing one player in the press might cause other players in the squad to disapprove and seek a new county; pressurise international managers to select your in-form players.
Charts and graphs provide detailed analysis on where games were won and lost.
Detailed player and team instructions; chase quick singles, encourage big hitting or order your deadly fast bowler to bowl bouncers on a hard wicket.
Full international simulation - Contracted players, A teams, U19 sides. Overseas tours include tour matches against local opposition.
Apply for vacant managerial positions, resign from your current job or feel the chairman's axe fall on your neck.
Detailed training options - employ batting/bowling coaches
Print facility
World Cricket Manager won't contain graphical highlights. This is because they add little to the managers perspective of how the sees the game.
