U19 12th Man
Glamorgan VS Surrey!!!

Glamorgan were the underdogs going into the match with unbeaten Surrey. But manager TBY was used to this.Pressure was on him to continue the exploits of former manager Agronaut (sp) going into his first match in charge.Playing Surrey surely was not the right way to start!Elsewhere,Surrey won the toss and elected to bat and try and get yet another Innings win.

Surrey's innings was dominated by 4 half-centuries.

M.Black raised an early scare when he got rid of Ian Ward for a duck with a return catch which considering the speed at which he runs in can only be dubbed as superb.Black later also uprooted Marshall's stumps. The score was 2-23 and Surrey were in trouble. But the next 97 runs were produced without losing a wicket with a priceless partnership between Thorpe and Ally Brown before Brown's excessive speed was brought to a grinding halt by the combination of Dighe and Parkin.Brown gone for 55,score at 120-3.Klusener got Somasunder out LBW for 4.In came Vijay Mane and another Half-century.When both Thorpe and Mane left,Bicknell paired well with Tudor and Mushtaq and brought the score to a very respectable 353.Mission Accomplished for the Glamorgan's bowlers who were trying not to get the score out of reach. The chief destroyer was M.Black with 4 for 73.

Glamorgan's innings was dominated by 3 double digit scores

Glamorgan never got going and TBY's worst fears came true.Only captain Ganguly showed resilience with a solid 50 as Glamorgan collapsed for 126.Key and Akram were the others to reach double figures.Bicknell and Ormond taking 4 wickets each.

Kolkata 2001

Following on,Glamorgan lost all hope when Maynard got out to leave the score at 5 for 116.What followed was Kolkata revisited but not in the huge numerical amounts.Hemp and Dale decided to put their heads down and racked up a huge 196 run stand which would turn the match on its head.It was not enough however,as Hemp's 118 and Dale's 101 could only give Glamorgan a second innings lead of 130.Bicknell again picking up 4 wickets.Would Surrey knock off the total easily or would they choke???

Snap!!!!!

They would go on to choke. All falling like pins as Black unleashed a ruthless attack on them.Only 4 double-figure scores, and no half-century,and they were allout for 119.Glamorgan won by 11 runs and snapped Surrey's winning streak.Marlon Black won the Man Of The Match award with match figures of 9-101...5-28 in the second innings.

Manager TBY was elated. He said,"Getting off to a winning start makes me feel much more confident. And doing that miraculous comeback and that too against Surrey really makes the boys deserve a pat on the backs.Kudos to them and I hope there are much more entertaining [and less tense on the heart] matches from now on.Lets drink to our association!!!"

International Captain
Warwickshire win at last

Warwickshires purple patch of form continued as they grabbed their first when in the four day competition, over a lack lustre Northern Districts in Hamilton, winning comfortably, by seven wickets.

Shaun Pollock was the star, picking up the man of the match award, for a top bowling proformence.

This win eases the pressure on Warwickshire who now face an easier task in avoiding the bottom spot in division 2. They are currently fifth equal Worcestershire.

LANCASHIRE visit to Mumbai

Lancashire sank well and truly into the relegation mire after being crushed by top of the table Mumbai.

Mumbai batted first and scored an impressive 406 after T.Darden (71) and V.Kambli (118) set them up with an opening partnership of 168. Other batsmen to contribute were J.Paranjpe (65no), A.Muzumdar (41) and H.Badani (39).
M.Pushpakumara stood out amongst the visiting bowlers with figures of 31-3-106-7. He had good support from the under rated M.Smethurst with 24-4-80-3.

Lancashire were only able to score 211 in reply, failing to avoid the follow on target.
Most of the batsmen got starts, but failed to go on with only M.Ramprakash (48) contributing sufficiently.
The Mumbai bowlers to impress were D.Hettiarachchi 10-3-30-3, M.Sigera 9-1-37-2 and R.Powar 17-7-41-2.

The follow on was enforced and Lancashire fared no better in their second innings as they collapsed from 172/5 to be all out for 217.
J.Modanagopal (51no), M.Ramprakash (47) and A.Swann (37) showed pluck, but only two other batsmen reached double figures.
C.Cairns produced his best bowling figures of the season with 18-1-56-4 while M.Sigera again performed well with 20-4-67-3.

Mumbai only had a victory target of 23 which they achieved with the loss of two wickets.

Auckland's Anxiety

The match between Somerset and Auckland was billed to be one of the highlights of season 2002-3. With two of the lesser favourite sides coming up against each other after both posting impressive wins in their last 4 day fixtures. Auckland went into the side under fill in manager Age_Master, with Slats4ever away on his annual holiday.
Auckland batted first and their innings was highlighted with numerous players getting starts. The only player to go on with the job however was Chris Harris, in this match as captain, posting 105. Wicketkeeper R Lynch and fast bowler J Hewitt provided some powerful hitting down the order to allow Auckland to reach the total of 352.
Somerset then went about their batting in impressive fashion. Things looked like they were beginning to get away from the Auckland side with P Bowler 143 being abley supported by M Trescothic 108, seeing the total to 1-257 and less than 100 behind. However they then went about losing 9-112, sparked by a rejuvinated Allan Donald who took 7-112. Somerset were all out for 369, a lead of 17.
Auckland once again relied heavily on the bat of Chris Harriss who posted 83. However he was well supported by R Nichol 79 and A Prince 52. Auckland looked set to post Somerset a daunting target with the usually very strong lower order set to score runs. Andy Caddick was having nothing of that and ripped the last 5 wickets and finished with 10 wickets for the match.
Aucklands lead was 300 and this clash was meeting all expectations.
Somerset then began cautiously when they were restricted to 4-68 and Auckland began to close in on victory. However their hopes of a easy victory were dashed when M Wood and S Afridi added 140 and took the Somerset side to withing 100 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Once again this match was evenly poised and was going to come down to who wanted the win more. With Andre Addams adding 28 crucial runs before he was dismissed with just 4 runs required for victory and 1 wicket required. Big Paul "Blocka" Wilson saw out the last 2 balls of his over before R Johnson glanced one to fine leg to complete an amazing win for Somerset.

MOM- A Caddick
Congrats to Somerset from Auckland.

FINALLY

the colts finally broke through for their first 4 day win of the season.

the colts won the toss and batted on what looked to be a good pitch, unfortunatley it was not, we were bowled out for 255 with sharath (94) and Anderson (54) the only batsmen passing 50

WP looked like passing the total easily at 5-232 with Ackerman (71) and Smith (86) dominating the bowling, but QP collapsed to be all out for 251, upshantha staring taking 5-39

WP again took early wickets with the colts struggling at 5/167 but some intelligent batting from SHarath (90) and Arunkumar (133) gor the colts to 390 and an imposing target was set for WP

Kirsten (119) and Kallis (39) set about achieving the target with ease but another collapse with some quick wickets to Liyanage (4/65) and weeraratne (3/72) and our part timers katitch and shewag sealed the match by 70 runs, MOM without a doubt was Sharath. FINALLY A WIN :):):):):):):):)
