Yeah. When I saw slippy had made this thread I felt certain the byline would have been “Wasteman”.

Love that photo SCC posted. Makes me laugh at Kohli trying to get in paine’s face yesterday when Paine was bating. Wish Symonds had been batting at that moment.

How good a fielder was he in the circle in LO stuff? When Australia had him, Ponting, Clarke and Hussey all fielding there it was ****ing insane.
They were incredible and their collective fielding was probably the most exciting part of that ODI era for Australia.

He was up there with Collingwood and Ponting as the elite fielders of that period IMO.

He seemed to have/ a body which would've been useful at any sport. His shoulder tackle of that streaker suggests he could've done respectably at rugby and other such sports.

Would things have turned out differently for him if he'd thrown in his lot with England?
He would've had to wait for Flintoff to retire which would've got in the way of him. Perhaps he would've been exposed to tamer influences though which could've prolonged his career.

Not as bad as the Chris Lewis waste of talent, at least Symonds was a very good player for a while even if it was only a short period.
Yes, he was another disappointment, but he was never going to be a true great, unlike Symonds, who looked like he would become one in '95 when he first played for Gloucester - that performance against Glamorgan was just insane from a 20 year old

He was lucky he got that second chance in 03 to show what he was truly capable of

Could have gone the way of Shane Lee

He'd have played for England before Freddie, had he been so minded

He was no Jesse Ryder in terms of wasted talent. Big Jesse should've achieved as much as Ross Taylor with the bat and taken plenty of handy poles too

Not sure if Symonds was a wasted talent in Tests, but it's a shame he doesn't make more ODI ATG XIs. One feels with a better attitude and more discipline he could have been a lock.

He got thrown under a bus to appease a visiting team of spoilt brats and cry babies who couldn't cop losing three wickets in the last over of a test to Michael ****ing Clarke. No wonder his attitude suffered.

More likely the opposite tbh. Symonds would have been an England regular, probably in all forms, for a long time. Good enough to play as a specialist batsman too. Flintoff clearly the better bowler of course and they would have almost certainly played alongside each other.

I like how the first few pages is just fatshaming poor Mark Cosgrove.

CW has a lot to apologize for.

Why would symonds even be in the discussion for an odi atg xi? Angelo Matthews has a much better record and he's miles off too
