Are Van Zyl and Faf also quota players?
They are still averaging higher then duminy in tests.

But no duminy isn't picked because of quotas, some people still feel he will fulfill his potential his 161 vs aus showed.....That one innings seems to have bought him a lifetime of second chances...

On quotas, JP was perhaps fast-tracked into the ODI team because of quotas, but in the long run, particularly in the shorter stuff he has proven to be a very handy player.

After the initial hype following his first coupla Test knocks (there was even an Ian Chappel article on cricinfo about how JP is going to be the next thing) started dropping there has been more and more talk of him becoming more of an 'all-rounder' with his bowling expected to contribute significantly, particularly after Kallis' departure messed up the whole balance of the side. Which in theory could work so-so.

But as a batsman in the 5-day game, he is basically Suresh Raina. Has always struggled with real quicks, spin bowlers. What use are you then? With the bat, he averages about the same as Shaun Pollock.

But no duminy isn't picked because of quotas,..
Agreed.

However one of the reasons they are so reluctant to bin him is due to the quota system with Rabada so inexperienced and Philander so injury prone, it makes dropping him much harder then it should be.

I think he will make 30 or 40 tomorrow and that will be enough to keep his place for the series.

David Miller

I really think this guy should be doing better, he just seems happy to be playing ipl and ram slam tournament and seems to be going through the motions when he turns up to play 1st class cricket for the Dolphins and his 1st class average of 33 tells a story for me, i would like to seem him work harder in the 1st class game so he can prove to South African selectors he good enough to play test cricket. His one day international and 20 20 international batting stats are fine for a middle order batter but the guy needs to set himself some goals to get a chance to play test match cricket for his country.

South Africa batting resources seem to be lacking these days has this 1st test match against England is showing, i would just like to see guys like David Miller earn his place in the test match team cause the guy is a talent as we have seen in one day and 20 20 cricket.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
It's not going to happen fellas. He needs a 172* in the next inning/test or 272 out once or 372 out twice. The odds are highly against him ever averaging 100.
