The conviction is arguably admirable, but the relentless unadulterated drivel it's based on is slightly less so.You have to admire the conviction tbh
Nothing beats a potato, especially if it's friedTime for a Wasim Akram vs Patato thread?
5% is more than enough to beat McGrath in every category after a similar length of career.Wasim Akram was an ATG bowler. He will easily fit in one of the top 3 hypothetical XIs in history. His batting comes as a bonus and makes him a greater cricketer than some of the other ATG bowlers who only had skill in one discipline.
But if some one needs to extrapolate as much as 12-15% to make him look a better bowler than every one else, which he clearly wasn't, that is where the problem lies. Given the circumstances he played in, most people won't object if his averages are adjusted within a reasonable limit like 3-5%.
Yeah see this is what just doesn't make sense to me and I think I apply this across the board.Funny thing is most people here would have rated Akram higher if retired after 1997.
It does, but even then Donald is better for me. And i dont consider longevity factor here, because its not Donald's fault. (FYI Mike Procter is my 4th greatest cricketer after Sobers, Bradman and W.G )I'm curious to know why the bold doesn't apply to Donald vs Ambrose then. Donald had far better team, batting, fielding team, played far less than Ambrose, yet you rate Donald higher...
For this to happen, Mcgrath would have had to retire around the same time as well.Funny thing is most people here would have rated Akram higher if retired after 1997.
To each his own (when it's convenient) I guess....It does, but even then Donald is better for me. And i dont consider longevity factor here, because its not Donald's fault. (FYI Mike Procter is my 4th greatest cricketer after Sobers, Bradman and W.G )
The issue is that everyone has declines at the end of their careers, that part is always forgotten. And I'm not saying all are equal, but don't see anyone flying the flag for Ponting the same way.For this to happen, Mcgrath would have had to retire around the same time as well.

If you're just ignoring me and trundler, then sure. Don't blame you tbf.And I'm not saying all are equal, but don't see anyone flying the flag for Ponting the same way.
I was talking about Akram only. For this to happen, Mcgrath would have had to retire around the same time as well.
Hobbs averaged 50+ in 3 countriesTo each his own (when it's convenient) I guess....
The thing with Sachin and Marshall is that even with their declines, they have better stats than everyone else. Viv is unique in that the reason he's rated so highly is his strike rate, so his decline in his averages didn't really affect why he was rated so highly in the first place. If Ponting had a strike rate like Viv's, he would be rated a lot higher and in the same tier as Viv/Sachin/Lara. Also if Ponting didnt have that average of 26 in India, he would probably be rated higher as well. That's just how I see it.The issue is that everyone has declines at the end of their careers, that part is always forgotten. And I'm not saying all are equal, but don't see anyone flying the flag for Ponting the same way.
Most of us experienced most of the careers we are discussing, so don't believe we have forgotten the peaks etc, this **** is baked in as it was for Viv, Sachin, even Marshall etc..
Akram will be the undisputed number 1 if the poll is conducted among Akram, Donald, Mcgrath and Ambrose ?To be fair to PFK, literally every international cricketer does think Wasim is a top 3 fast bowler of all time. Are they all wrong? Surely they know better than us lol.
When do we start calling institutions to help this poor man?Hobbs averaged 50+ in 3 countries
Bradman 2
Sehwag 5.
Sehwag is more proven, reliable and Consistent. Right?
To be honest you're right.Akram will be the undisputed number 1 if the poll is conducted among Akram, Donald, Mcgrath and Ambrose ?
Lillee is a legitimate GOAT candidate IMO.To be honest you're right.
But then on the other hand, Lillee would be the undisputed number 1 if the poll was between Lillee, Imran, and Hadlee. I reckon you could throw Marshall in there as well and Lillee would come close and that would be ridiculous.
