Cameron White for me. Might be a batting all-rounder, but still a pretty good bowler.
I'm positive White will play for Australia within the next few years, he's too good a player not to, but it'd be sad if he was picked as Australia's sole spinner because his bowling is not going to pull its weight at test level and the role of the spinner in Australian cricket would decline.
He'll be a useful fifth option/partnership breaker and he'll become more useful on the subcontinent and on the last coupla days of test matches but he's not going to be 20% of the bowler Warne was/is.

However his batting has improved out of sight in the last three years and he's now looking like the batsman he promised to be when he captained Australia at under 19 level, he's still only 24 (I think), excellent fielder and has a great head on his shoulders and he's only going to improve with time.

I say Cameron White he's shown promise and a few reports have been written about him and how he might be set to get a shot even before Warne anounced retirement they were syaing he might take over from Warne when he retires. Who knows the Aussies love to suprise us all:eek:

Dan Cullen's face is too annoying to look at for him to become a test player. I'm sure the Australian selectors will have that in mind.

It's obvious - greatest leg-spinner in history cant be replaced anytime soon!

Oz has succeeded with 4 bowlers of late because Warne and McGrath (better than Warne but that's another argument) have allowed them to stack the batting.

We now need to pick 4 bowlers and an all-rounder to take 20 wickets.

Given that our next series after the Ashes is next summer, our attack should be:

Clark
2 of Hilfenhaus/Johnson/Lee
MacGill
Watson

1 for 1 when replacing McGrath and Warne wont work

I voted Cullen because I think he'll be the first one to be given an extended run. The selectors have obviously had him earmarked for a while, and everyone affiliated with the team seems to rate him. He'll need to do a bit more than he has been in first class cricket, but he's got the inside running.

The other obvious candidate is Bailey. Been in the A team, taken far more wickets than Cullen of late and obviously he's a leg-spinner so will get extra attention. He's the only one of the leg-spinners on the first class scene at the moment who is actually having any success in terms of taking wickets, even though his average is still pretty crap. White is mostly pushing his case as a batsman, and Casson's done nothing since going to NSW.

A lot depends on how long MacGill stays around for, of course. He could play for a year or two and the scene could look totally different afterwards. If injuries hit right now, it'd be MacGill, Cullen and then Bailey. Or hell, Symonds or Krezja or something for their batting.

Not sure yet. But i'm going to say Cullen Bailey because traditionally Australia don't usually produce top-class off-spinners, leggies have been their thing, the best offieplayed way back in the early 1900s, while even though Ashley Mallet would have been good, one wouldn't class him amongst the great off-spinners of the past, i.e Gibbs, Laker, Prasanna, Tayfield etc

Bailey is working with Warne's mentor Jenner so maybe just maybe he can turn Bailey into something big in the future also, but obviously not of Warne's quality since he's a once in a lifetime player.

I have seen Cullen and I really don't think he's anyuthing speicial.......I don't think he'll be as good as guys like Saq and Harby despite the hype that surrounds him.

And besides, I can't see Australia picking finger spinners as their main attacking spinner for a test match.

I haven't seen Cullen Bailey but I can't see Casson being test class unless he improves his control dramatically.

Really tho, It's quite possible that AUstralia may have to live with not having a world class spinner for the next few years until someone emerges --- they've been lucky to have a an all time great and a another fairly decent one over the last few years at the same time.

I think our expectations will be too high for Warne's reaplacement, but i think Dan Cullen or Cameron White. Preferable Dan Cullen.

From an outside few I don't think any of them are good enough to be Warne's "replacement" even if they do take his spot in the side. But Cameron White and Dan Cullen would be the front runners I think.

Not a big call since he was a once in a lifetime player. I can see many players being tried over the next few years. You never know, they might bat Symonds at 8.
