Waqar Younis vs Michael Holding vs Joel Garner

Kirkut

International Regular
Peak Waqar. From 1999 onwards he became Whackar Youmust, because he kept getting whacked as he trundled.

Holding took 30 wickets in 6 tests @22 in India, Garner took 10 in 3 tests @19 in Pakistan, yet Garner did better somehow?

My sense from reading from their careers was that Holding was the main strike bowler in the late 70s early 80s team until Marshall emerged.
6 Tests versus 3 Tests, it's not exactly an huge sample size either way, if you are docking one for not many Tests but being successful, (which you were suggesting to try and find a way Holding was better) you do it to both, not just the flashier one.

While that Holding series in India was great, it's worth remembering that he was the third best bowler that series and 2 others also took 29 or more wickets in 6 games.

Fair to say Kapil outperformed Marshall and Holding in the series. WAG

And the simple fact that Pakistanis were much superior against pace than Indians, especially against WI.

I hate to seem like I'm picking on you but no way were Pakistanis much better at playing West Indian pace than Indians. As a matter of fact, if memory serves me correctly the opposite was true (I could be wrong of course). But I recall either Vengsarkar or Armanath doing well vs the WI. Gavaskar needs no introduction. Even if we ignore the weaker WI attacks Gavaskar plundered, he still went at 40 + vs first choice WI attacks. Completely acceptable.
