W.G. never wore a box...

Haha, ind33d. And you regretted not wearing one against Howgate.

Did any of you notice, BTW, how closed my stance was? It was that or go and put my box on.

I wouldn't normally wear one when messing about outside like that with something that isn't a cricket ball anyway tbh.

I would, and do. Even being hit there with a tennis-ball at reasonable speed (which you, me and Howgate all are) sans-box can't be pleasant.

Not that I bat in said circumstance much any more.

I'm in the process of getting a new one, an Albion Titanium job, is pretty neat, but fair expensive.
How much are you getting it for? And could you tell me what it's like after you've tried it?

Atm i've got a Masuri but i've had it for a year and the grill is all messed up, it rattles whenever i run.

Been hit there a couple of times fielding (not a very good fielder) with a tape-ball. It's not that bad.

Serious? I never wear a box when playing with a tennis ball/tapeball etc, don't see the need tbh. Last time I was at the nets (playing with a cricket ball) I batted a good over or so against a fairly rapid bowler before I realised I forgot to wear a box.

I tried for a local league once. I was under the impression they were a tape-ball league so didn't take any equipment except my bat. Turns out they were playing with a cricket ball. My try-out didn't go as planned as I was worried about my assets the whole time.

I'd like to wiegh into this talk too.

I don't like wearing helmets. When I went to India 2-3 years ago, I bought a nice one, Dravid-esque, but ever since I purchased, I can recall only wearing it twice since. Once when I got out for either a duck or 2 and the second time was when our school played the Scotland under 19s team, I wore it out, team member was dismissed and I told him to take it back to the pavilion.

I would/will never play tennis with a box on. But, as Rich says, some maybe more vulnerable to others (not making them anymore or less of a man), but one thing I can say, is that when a tennis ball hits you in 'that' spot at any speed...pain. I'm not sure if you blokes in England know of a school yard gaem called handball (not the Olympic type), but its quite popular in Australia. But I remember getting hit in the gonads during hand ball, ouch. And it was slow as anything.

It's probably the screws that are loose if it's rattling around.

Yeah, hopefully I'm gonna get it soon, and I pretty much know that it will be good.
