What "holes" does Joe Root have in his record? I would say he has proved himself to be very solid throughout the world.

Afaic, Root's only hole is his very ordinary record in Australia. And that too, with zero 100s in 14 matches.

Going with Sehwag here. Best player of all time in Asia.

Also, the only thing that should really matter for an England player is record in and against Australia and Root falls short.

I don’t think it’s that obvious. It’s obvious to a bunch of stats nerds who fixate on sehwag’s performances outside of Asia. If you ask 50 neutral cricket journalists and contemporaries, I suspect Sehwag would win out because in the real world people don’t discount Asia performances and what he did was so unprecedented.

Jesus Viru is getting slaughtered here...

As he should. I really rate Root for versatility, great technique against both pace and spin, ability to play fast or slow, and no decline moving into a harder batting era.

Yeah Sehwags strike rate and batting position makes it close

Joe Root is a better batsman. Sehwag was more destructive in certain conditions but Root is your perfect definition of a great batsman.

Joking aside about his Australia track record. Joe Root is close to the perfect modern batsman. Sehwag is not as a good batsman as he is,

That said, I could make a strong argument that while Root is undeniably better, Sehwag is more *valuable* because his primary ability is so pronounced in conditions where he played 60% of his cricket.
