I can’t think of any batter averaging sub 50 that is rated as a bonafide ATG tbh. Both Kohli and Root will have their ratings drop after their careers are over if they end below 50.
Root probably bows out before his average drops one whole point tbh

Maybe he proves me wrong but I don’t think so as I see him playing till 2027/2028 and this era is quite tough for batting. 48/49 is more realistic IMO which is still great.

Yeah I think Root having a big Australia tour is moderately more likely than finishing on 50 but he has a chance of both.

think he bows out at Ashes 2027 for sure, home ashes, most probably where England regain the urn, if his performance is up then he can play further on and go fro SRT's record but we'll see.

I think some of you folks are putting a little too much emphasis on averaging 50 like it's a magic number....... Yousuf averages over 50, Kanhai doesn't. And like, if say A averages 47, B @50 and C @55; is there really any solid logic to say B is further ahead of A than C is of him? Is C even always ahead of B? Weekes and Viv, Barrington and Gavaskar, Williamson and Border, Sangakkara and Ponting (though Sangakkara is ahead), Hobbs and..... (Okay, Hobbs is better than everyone bar Bradman).

In fact, most of BD bowlers average over 50, where Bumrah averages only 20; that wouldn't mean BD bowlers are better than bumrah.....(Ok maybe it would)
