I will pick Kohli because I would want my team to compete vs big boys rather than just bash weaker teams and make a career of that.

No other batter since my time of watching cricket having as bad an away average vs top 5 teams as Williamson does is rated as highly as Kane Williamson.

Kohli wasn't about as good as KW from 14-19. He was much much better
That isn’t reflected in their records. These are their records from 14-19.

Kohli: 58.71 overall and 48.32 away/neutral

Williamson: 61.95 overall and 57.05 away/neutral

Kohli was arguably better but there’s not much difference between them during this period.

The point has already been made, but...Kane has reached a point where CW analysts are giving him nil credit (or even negative credit?) for literally winning us test matches and series, because it's being done at home or in particular overseas countries where he has a history of doing well. Like, there isn't a point where this ceases to be valuable. The more he does it, the more impressive his home record becomes, the more dominant he is in his favoured conditions = the more credit he should get. He has become stupidly underrated because of this jaundiced analysis where the actual bulk of his career and his achievements gets written off on the basis that "he's done it before", as if that's how cricket works.

So yeah I guess tl;dr analysis by checklist bad right

scoring buttloads of runs at home is also what every good batsman has done ever. There are a few outliers but most aussie and indian greats have similar imbalanced records.

Yeah and if (as I suspect he is, without re-checking the stats) KW is a GOAT-tier home batsman with an all-time imbalanced record, then he deserves GOAT-tier credit for said home record. It doesn't somehow become more of a negative the better it gets.

Against whom did those away numbers come?

Kohli was better for about 4-5 years. Williamson overall has been miles more consistent. It used to be close but isn't anymore, they're pretty much in different tiers of quality at this point.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think Virat's best was a level above KW's but yeah, unfortunately, I feel Virat has fallen off the ATG tier while the rest of the fab 4 remain there pretty firm. KW is better overall. I just voted Virat coz I like him more.

Yes.

Not sure about “much much” better but definitely a level above.

Overall it’s pretty hard to put Kohli’s career ahead of KW. Kohli has actively been losing his side games for half a decade now, not just being a guy in decline averaging 35 or whatever.

Unless I missed Bradman coming back from the dead, I'm a bit baffled by the idea that anyone was clearly better than KW 2014-2019. Like what the **** else was he supposed to do.
