Loads of top cricketers are nice people though.BoyBrumby said:I dunno why I should be surprised that such a nice bloke is actually really talented too, but my first reaction was, "But he's a top bloke!".
Obviously modest too. I fully expect a hushed awe next time he logs on tho!
Yeah - most of the footballers I've met (about 25 of them) are not especially nice chaps.Langeveldt said:Loads of top cricketers are nice people though.
If he was a footballer, i'd be more suspicious..
Actually Michael Holding is one of the rudest, most inconsiderate people I've ever met, but that's neither here nor there.kwek said:lol Michael Holding not a well-manned ? lol.
Stop, you'll get Barney's life story again. Use the advanced search and you'll find it.kwek said:why was he rude?
Do you actually find me extremely irritating, or is it all in good fun? I'm starting to wonder.......Neil Pickup said:Stop, you'll get Barney's life story again. Use the advanced search and you'll find it.
OK, I'll bite, and I'm too lazy to search. What happened? I'm sure vic will be grateful for the thread-jack.Barney Rubble said:Actually Michael Holding is one of the rudest, most inconsiderate people I've ever met, but that's neither here nor there.
Basically, I've met him twice (once outside the Oval after he commentated on the SA Test in 2003, and once after he commentated on a Somerset game) and both times he very sternly said "NO AUTOGRAPHS" when asked (politely, I may add) - the first time by me and about 5 ten year old kids, he half-bellowed it at us and pushed his way through the kids to get out of the group of people.Slow Love™ said:OK, I'll bite, and I'm too lazy to search. This is kinda weird, because I seem to remember Pedro Delgado saying exactly the same thing about Holding the other week (and I wondered what he meant, too).
Don't worry, all in good funBarney Rubble said:Do you actually find me extremely irritating, or is it all in good fun? I'm starting to wonder.......
Every player probably gets sick of autographs - I actually sympathised when Jason Gillespie said he was sick to death of signing autographs for people who'd abused him verbally throughout a match.Barney Rubble said:Basically, I've met him twice (once outside the Oval after he commentated on the SA Test in 2003, and once after he commentated on a Somerset game) and both times he very sternly said "NO AUTOGRAPHS" when asked (politely, I may add) - the first time by me and about 5 ten year old kids, he half-bellowed it at us and pushed his way through the kids to get out of the group of people.
The second time, it was only me, and no-one else, as he was coming out of the combox, waiting for an autograph - he didn't even look at me, just said "NO AUTOGRAPHS" again and walked on down the stairs. I could understand if it was his policy to stop people selling things, but 1) to do it to a group of five little kids who clearly idolised him, and 2) to do it to one guy who did really respect him, without even the slightest hint of common courtesy or respect for others was just needless - it wasn't like it would have taken too much time, a few seconds at the most.
Rudeness is one of my pet peeves, and for it to be so blatantly unnecessary, and to people who were trying to show admiration for him by asking for an autograph - ridiculous.
Thats just wrong! Who the hell does he think he is?Barney Rubble said:Basically, I've met him twice (once outside the Oval after he commentated on the SA Test in 2003, and once after he commentated on a Somerset game) and both times he very sternly said "NO AUTOGRAPHS" when asked (politely, I may add) - the first time by me and about 5 ten year old kids, he half-bellowed it at us and pushed his way through the kids to get out of the group of people.

Apologies Neil, I know you've heard it all before.
Been doing that all my life, can't escape it.Neil Pickup said:Don't worry, all in good fun
You just get it most because you set up so many opportunities!
