Will they be playing with the duke at the World Cup? That alone will see Southee retain his place.
Boult's been a class ODI bowler right through so I'd continue to have him in the mix, while making sure his workload is managed (tests obviously being the priority, but NZ simply don't have enough regular test cricket lined up so don't know if he'd be content with having to sit out a huge chunk of the year). Southee should be cut loose from ODIs anyway unless he can dramatically turn the corner . No shame in that - England bit the bullet with Broad and Anderson after the 2015 WC. There's a decent amount of depth in the fast bowling ranks so not much to worry about there.here's a teaser for the thread - do we put boult and southee into odi retirement post world cup to preserve them for test cricket?
there's a few blokes in their 30s who might not make 2023. im pretty sure ross will bow out after this one, so you'd think nicholls or latham will go to #4. i think both lord colins are past 30? guptill should go for another world cup imo since he's a specialist.
as being a potential future BC middle order bat to have a look at on a full size ground and then assess.Tom Bruce was bandied about at one stage as being a future BC middle order bat. Hasn't really kicked on after some early international chances.
Has anyone got data on List A stats for the last 3-4 years that isn't behind a paywall?
That's the doom and gloom thread and any thread temporarily when CM Punk shows up.Can a mod change this to ****Official NZ Cricket Whinging Thread****
Will leave the final amount of stars in the title up to you
Are you sure you don’t want to get all precious like the Australians and insist on a new thread each year even though it’s discussing the same thing and every other country is fine with one thread for everything? Can a mod change the thread title to 'New Zealand team selection and discussion' to bring it inline with the other threads.
This comment is so 2018.Are you sure you don’t want to get all precious like the Australians and insist on a new thread each year even though it’s discussing the same thing and every other country is fine with one thread for everything?
Agreed. He's our long term #4 once Ross retires (please after Boxing Day at least).was thinking earlier today that henry nicholls' mechanical approach to building his odi innings reminds me a lot of the early form of current taylor, where he was even more mechanical in his odi batting than he is now.
would be keen to give nicholls a run at #4 post world cup. i reckon it's his perfect spot.
Mostly agree with this. I also find it really frustrating, that the selectors still clearly have no clue who their best XI is. Rather than using this series as an acid test for the likely first choice XI, they've continued to fart around with fringe contenders like Bracewell and Tastle. No disrespect to either them, but with the world cup only a few months away, neither should be close to the playing XI in such an important series. Was thinking on the commute in this morning about our side in 2015 vs our side today, and how about a year ago I thought we'd be in a better position to win this WC than the last since the last team still had a few players yet to hit their peak, and now being the point when they should.
Except, the replacements haven't exactly cut it. Latham is a step up from Ronchi but has a different role with the bat. Munro is no Baz and CdG is no Elliott. Unfair to compare Santner now to Vettori at the end of his long career as one of the best ODI spinners ever.
Southee has regressed but we've found a decent gun in Ferguson, and Henry is finally getting some game time. Remember how Boult had played like 7 ODIs before the WC? Now he's arguably in our ATG ODI XI. Basically the only players I have confidence in for this WC right now are Boult, Taylor and Latham. Even Kane's form has been worrying and although Guptill is generally gun, he scored less runs in Munro in the recent series. I expect him to come good but averaging 28 this year hasn't been all that inspiring - though that's probably partly down to the situations he's found himself in thanks to Munro.
