Stead's gonna pick him for the Australia tour.
Yeah that's just weird. I get banning someone from coaching who's been caught match-fixing, but not abling them to watch just reeks of punishment for punishment's sake.I knew he couldn't coach or play but I didn't know he'd actually been banned from entering any cricket ground! Absurd.
YesIs it heretical to consider 3. Conway 4. Williamson?
If Ravindra comes in to open, Conway sliding to 4 just opens him up to starting against part time spin at home and against spin full stop in Asia. Good player but seems much happier starting against pace and working into it.
If Phillips had a bit more work in him I'd consider keeping the meme quartet team balance with him as the 'spinner' but I want to see more performances before thinking it's a good idea.
I've suggested Kane moving to 4 or even 5 as the elder statesman a few times now but it does seem heretical considering he had consecutive centuries recently. But personally it makes sense as I think our top order would be a lot stronger with Conway at 3 and Kane at 4.Is it heretical to consider 3. Conway 4. Williamson?

Yeah it's about run maximisation. Need to know where guys think they're best and where they actually fit best. There's a heap of permissions and I still quite like Rachin at 3.
Having thought about it more, I do think it'd be good to know exactly where Conway would prefer to bat. If someone suggested he move down the order again his response could be anything from 'get ****ed, stop moving me around the order you dickheads' to 'actually that'd be great thanks'. Put him where he thinks he would bat best and that would answer most of the questions of how the top 4 is ordered.
On current form for sureWould it be blasphemous to say Mitchell is our second best bat after Kane? Conway has really struggled against spin.
I was thinking that earlier today.Would it be blasphemous to say Mitchell is our second best bat after Kane? Conway has really struggled against spin.
18 months ago I might have even had Conway number 1 as Kane seemed to be struggling after missing the home summer with his elbow problem. Agree he would be behind Mitchell now.I was thinking that earlier today.
12 -18months ago you would've said Kane>Conway>mitchell>Blundell=Latham but now I think it's Kane>Mitchell>Conway>Phillips>Blundell>Latham
Nah, I think it's a good conversation. With the absurd amount of cricket Conway plays, maybe it is worth taking him away from the further pressure of opening in Tests. And I'm all for thinking about whether Kane's latter years are best spent one spot down, although I suspect he wouldn't agreeIs it heretical to consider 3. Conway 4. Williamson?

Good in theory but ever since Wagner lost that little bit of pace NZ have found it difficult not just to take wickets but also stem the flow of runs with the older ball. The two series against England (over last 18 months) in particular showed that risk taking is an attractive proposition at the moment against NZ. Really need to work out how to bowl dry for long periods. Southee, Henry, Jamieson and Shipley if all available is still a pretty decent attack, but I suppose Wagner will get this summer so have to see how they'll make that work.Spinners average like 45 in NZ anyway, don't they? I'de just back the one of the four pacers to do the bulk of the work in the situations where phillips can't hold up an end. NZ have enough bowlers around to rotate when needed. If you've got rachin in the top 7 aswell it's not really an issue anyway.
Sad news that. Was an effective pacer both into the wicket and pitching up & could be brisk.Derek Stirling dies aged 62.
