I don't reckon he's done an ACL guys. At least I doubt hes ruptured it. Possible minor tear.
But I think most likely he's given his Meniscus a good jolt.
If it was an ACL rupture you'd have seen his knee collapse under his body weight, that didn't happen.
Meniscus can be funny. Some times you get an feeling that's almost like an electric shock, which can be horribly painful and it settles in a few days.
Often with Athletes they'll go in for key hole surgery to repair the Meniscus and they're good to go in 12 weeks.
Probably some damage to the ligament on the inside of the knee too.
But I have a feeling he should be good for the WC. But the medical Imaging will tell the whole story.
I'm a Physio for the record.
Potential ACL just gets clicks
I just want to say NRL Physio on twitter is also a qualified Physio and has a long history on there of giving quality and educational injury assessments, I think it's pretty harsh to say he said that to get the clicks. He has also appeared on NRL tv shows providing education around the various injuries that are common in that sport. And as is very often the case, he was spot on the money in this instance.

I hope his knee doesn't ruin the rest of his career like it has with some previous NZ batting greats. Sigh.
If players can return to rugby codes having done one, which requires a lot of quick powerful movement forwards, sideways, stepping ... hopefully he should be fine with proper rehab. A lot of it seems to come down to confidence after the injury.

Well then. So who do we think the selectors will opt for for the vacant #3 spot: Young or Nicholls? Or do they shuffle Conway down to 3 given how precious his runs will be, and try Bowes/Young/Nicholls/Ravindra at the top?

KW should not be used by NZC in T20 moving forward imo. He is just too valuable in formats he is actually good at. Northern should still be allowed to pick him of course, as that is an opportunity to give back to the people who made him with their expertise and money.

If he still wants to go and make millions in franchise tournaments for secondary employers in dribble people will forget like WSC results then his spot should be up for grabs.

Given the relative lack of earning opportunities domestic cricketers have and sacrifice in order to push for an NZ spot (thinking Josh Clarkson in particular here) I think if you want to go play driblet cricket, fine, but your spot is not reserved like it would be for annual leave, injury and illness, rotation etc.

If the top 3 at the WC dominate (unlikely, but someone gets an opportunity now) then hard luck KW.

Another alternative is a sabbatical system like NZR, and a non-debateable for me is we need to make domestic cricket an upper middle class job. NZC found millions to correctly double the womens pay and incorrectly pay extortion money to the PCB two seconds after crying poor so evidently it can be done.

Trying to look at the positives out of the KW injury...obviously the World Cup is a huge blow but you'd think he'd be good to go for the home summer after Xmas with Australia and SA. Only missing a Test series in Bangladesh on that front seems something we can deal with. A lot of rehab, time with his young family to refresh and realign where his goals are, could actually be a great thing at this point of his career.

And on the ODI front, youve still got the makings of a decent top order with Allen Conway Young Phillips Latham Mitchell Blundell etc. The only wrinkle now being that somewhere Gary Stead probably has a dark black Sharpie in his hand, ready to ensconce Henry Nicholls permanently into the team sheet.

Yeah not sure my dream of 100% braai guy purity in my draft teams will ever come to pass though tbh. Perhaps the only one in the frame for cracking that team right now who we all don't know too much about yet would be Severin.

If only Elon Musk would take advantage of a porous southern border to get a really strong cricket team going in central Texas in his old age. Provide those South African boys and girls with an outlet away from their diet of rusks and an atmosphere of uptight women shaking their rolling pins, assist them to achieve their cricketing dreams.

A quiz about a pretty amazing Tom Bruce statistic.

There are, by my reckoning, only 7 players in history to average over 50 in Plunket Shield / Shell Trophy - with a minimum of 2000 career runs.

Tom Bruce is one of them, he is 5th on the list ranked by career average.

Can you name the 5 other batsmen with better career averages than Tom Bruce - in Plunket Shield cricket.
