Wouldn't have bothered getting a month of Spark for them ... but that 10pm start time is pretty decent, and there's not much else to do during lockdown. Damn you two competing sports coverage tv services!!!!
****, you mustn't have kids. I saw it was on, thought sweet, something to look forward to in lockdown...at 10pm I'm like Shane Cameron in the Tua fight.

Random spot for a random question - why was Dion Nash so bad at ODIs? He was a good test bowler but his ODI record is hot trash. I was watching some VB series highlights last night and I noticed he dropped short a lot in that game. Was this a common issue for him?

Seemed to have solid pace in the 130 - 140kph range with movement and was always considered to have some of the worst white line fever in the side. Seems weird he was so useless in ODIs.

Dunno. I t was a mystery at the time and is a mystery now.

But ....

First version Nash was a bit trash at times, so put his record on back foot there.
Second version, after his back injury. Was damn good bowler.

In V2:
He was back of a length bowler. So in ODIs with no or few slips, he also wasn't getting the bowled and LBWs.
He didn't usually open (was Allott, Cairns, O'connor, Bond), white ball with the painted on colour and lacquer, didn't get it at it's best and they deteriorate quick.
He also didn't bowl death as much, so didn't get the cheap death wickets.

He was good in V2, had a good ER. But he just didn't get the wickets. But also, not even the wickets of Larsen or Harris. It's a mystery.

Looking into the future, a lot of our current side are all similarly aged.

Kane Williamson (31)
Devon Conway (30)
Tom Blundell (31 in a week)
Tom Latham (29)
Henry Nicholls (29)
Will Young (28)
Daryl Mitchell (30)
Jimmy Neesham (30)
Tim Southee (32)
Trent Boult (32)
Ajaz Patel (32)
Lockie Ferguson (30)
Doug Bracewell (30)
Adam Milne (29)
Mitchell Santner (29)
Matt Henry (29)

then there's Jamieson (26), Duffy (27) and Chapman (27).

Even though I don't advocate for blooding aka meme dropping of proven cricketers, it's good we're introducing a couple of outstanding players to international cricket and I wanna look through and see who in domestic cricket under 25 is actually good.

Rachin Ravindra (21)

Glenn Phillips (24)

Nathan Smith (23)

Ben Sears (23)

who else we got?

Weirdly, I also thought I recalled some good efforts with the bat in ODIs (I'm sure he played a decent knock in a game I went to at Eden Park as a kid, as well as taking us close in a big chase v South Africa in an Australian tri-series?), but he has a shocking batting record too.

My memory of Nash is that he played conventional shots into conventional areas. More chance of finding gaps in the field for 2s / 4s than hitting late inning 6s.

ODI stats comparison for players of the same era:
Chris Cairns 6s / boundaries ratio 31% (153 x 6s, 345 x 4s), SR 84
Kyle Mills 6s / boundaries ratio 33% (38 x 6s, 76 x 4s), SR 81
Dion Nash 6s / boundaries ratio 15% (5 x 6s, 28 x 4s), SR 66
Chris Harris 6s / boundaries ratio 13% (43 x 6s, 275 x 4s), SR 66

Scoreboard of Saffers game link below. IIRC Nash hit a "4" to fine leg in the final over, but boundary ropes had overlapped for a metre or so, there was a gap between the ropes, and ball bounced over the inner rope but before the outer rope. If it had been called a "6" then Nash might have only needed a single from the last ball, instead of needing 3 and being caught in the deep trying for a winning boundary.
