He specifically said for 'emotional reasons'. Calm down there Jimmy.tooextracool said:those who said tendulkars 100 against kenya, please, yes it was sentimental and showed great character and what not, but the reality of it was that it was against a very poor attack on the flattest of pitches, on which even the bangladesh batsmen would have been disappointed to not score on. tendulkar himself has played far far better innings than that one.
I guess someone is talking from his experience. anyways thanks for the advice (not that I will need it)zinzan12 said:That pot smoking is no good for your paranoia
That was actually in Sydney. Laxman scored the ton in Brisbane, and India won that game. The Sydney match was the game where Yuvraj and Laxman both scored tons, and got 300+ but rain shortened the game and Brett Lee hit the 6 off the third last ball (I think) in the Balaji over. Lee and Bichel then took a single to win the game for Australia with one ball to spare.honestbharani said:I think the innings by Yuvraj against Australia at Brisbane deserves a mention too. It is not often that a no.5 scores 139 against Australia in Australia (albeit against a McGrathless attack)
Perhaps you could show me where I have tried that.Cloete said:Or perhaps you are much too quick to promote Sub-Continent batsmen? Hm... no that couldn't be it!
Bevan has some terrific one day performances. His condtribution to one day cricket has been the perfection of the art of scoring at a fair clip WITHOUT taking undue risk. Unfortunately the world has yet to learn from his methods. If he was a stroke player like Sachin or Richards, then this combined with his remarkable adaptaion would have made him the greatest one day player ever.Cloete said:Yeah Bevan's the best ODI chaser in the history of the game as far as I'm concerned. Some amazing innings from an amazing cricketer!
Here aer some of his best:
4 Off the last ball
79* v Pakistan, Aus win in the last over
Chasing 285 Bevan gets 103 off 95. Aus win in last over.
Bevan hits 71 against India, Aus win in last over
Bevan hits 107 to steer Aus home chasning 243
Bevan hits 87* chasing 265 to win in 3rd last over. Aus were 6-202
Bevan hits 74* chasing 208 and winning in the last over. 2 of Aus FOW were 4-48 and 8-135.
These are only some of his many innings he made chasing. He made many more 50's, but these are the most important.
Michael Bevan.... best One Day International batsman ever!
Although I have no first hand experience of smoking(dont smoke) such stuff but your post do suggest that you have been smoking some serious stuff.zinzan12 said:What absolute Rubbish !!!
Obviously you've been smoking some pretty good pot too. Your paranoid.
Where have Sehwag and Dravid been critised recently??
Dude If Michael Slater or some other sh!t batsman from australia/NZ/WI/Eng/SA had scored 194 runs in timbuktoo against an attack worse than BD, he would have been declared the Bradman of ODIs and the innings would have been all time great, but since Saeed did it, it has to be qualifed with moronic arguments like 'It was with a runner', 'it was in subcontinent', 'it was against poor attack', 'it was not chanceless', 'Saeed was lucky' and blah blah blah. There is a very good chance that 90% of these people haven't watched his 194.Cloete said:No they don't. They're simply quick to get to the truth.
I mean things like comparing Anwar's innings of 194 to Lara's 400 is just ludicrous. Why do they think Anwar's innings is better... oh that's right, because he's a Pakistani.
Of course there are some people who will over criticise the Sub-Continent players but in most cases peopel are just listing the facts.
Why don't you simply provide some evidence of bias against the achievements of sub-continent players on this forum as opposed to just making these outragous allegations??Sanz said:Although I have no first hand experience of smoking(dont smoke) such stuff but your post do suggest that you have been smoking some serious stuff.
We are not talking about Players' forms but their achievements such as a 100 run innings or a match winning score etc. Hope that helps.
the thread asks for the top 10 innings of all time, theres no place for innings of personal benefit or what not, because it has no relevance in the thread. and if you take a look at his scores for the rest of the series, you might just wonder whether he was actually fazed by the death.Jono said:He specifically said for 'emotional reasons'. yes well spotted sherlock. its been said a million times before too, and if you really thought i cared, i would have decided to change it.Jono said:Also did you ever notice that in your signature, you spell 'overrate' as 'overate'?
right you are mate, that innnings was an absolute gem byt big chris cairnshowardj said:Chris Cairns v South Africa 102* at the Gabba in January 2002 - was a corker!
Agreed. But I don't think it's fair to compare them in terms of man of the match awards, given bevan batted at 5, 6 or 7 his only real chance of obtaining those awards was chasing, or rescuing Australia with a 50-80 if they collpased in the 1st innings (which didn't really happen alot throuighout his career).SJS said:Bevan has some terrific one day performances. As it is, I dont think he deserves this accolade, his batting average in ODI's not with standing.
Richards with 31 MOM awards in 187 matches and Sachin with 50 in 347 have clearly played a much larger decicive roles in more games and a larger proportion of games than Bevan with his 12 MOM awards in 232 games.
That is YOUR OPINION....... That is the keyword here. IDK how it works in England but in India, in the urban middle class families, the relationships are pretty close. I can (to some extent) imagine how close Sachin would have been to his dad... He was their last kid and they are always pretty special to their parents and his dad was one guy who always encouraged him to play cricket (his mom didn't) and it would have been shattering for him when his dad passed away and to come back after just one day and play that knock was unforgettable TO ME. The greatest battle a man can win is against his own emotions and that is why it was special. If you think it is no big deal, then it is just your opinion. Don't do this POLICING THING of what everyone posts. Atleast, I mentioned one or two innings there. How many times have you actually responded to a thread without commenting on other people's posts?tooextracool said:the thread asks for the top 10 innings of all time, theres no place for innings of personal benefit or what not, because it has no relevance in the thread. and if you take a look at his scores for the rest of the series, you might just wonder whether he was actually fazed by the death.

MOM awards aside, I would rather have Bevan in my side chasing 250 on an uneven wicket when the chips were down. Bevan's job was to get Australia home; be it getting 20 not out and shielding the tail from the strike bowlers, or nudging his way to a hundred without the opposition even noticing. If he batted at 3 he would no doubt hold the record for most 150s in ODIs. A player doesn't have to smash bowlers to the boundary to be valuable.SJS said:Bevan has some terrific one day performances.
