Tony Greig's all time best Indian Test XI

srinath was the best bowler i have seen played for india since i have been watching cricket.. i started watching cricket in 95 or 96.. so since then all those bowlers that have come none of them posesd or posses the abilities that srinath had.. therefore, i think Srinath is a good choice considering the fact that i only rate players that i have watched in my life time..

Zahir khan started pretty well but couldn't keep that performance and i still rate him higher than pathan, seesanth and other new bowlers..
Best pace bowler, or best bowler full stop - meaning you rate him higher than Kumble or Harbajan?

Strange selection, especially with Dravid as opener, when he was a regular in neither form of the game, while Tendulkar had opened at least in one-dayers.

Three spinners is way too stereotypical. Some of them were not that great, and there were spinners outside that famous quartet who were very good, and that combination wasn't very effective. Someone mentioned Amar Singh and Mohammed Nissar, and both should have made this team. Even Mankad as a second spinner would be a better choice.

Engineer or Kirmani? You decide.

Would Ravi Shastri make an all-time Indian XI?

If the match was being played in India, on a proper, turning Indian pitch, I'd want three spinners, and I'd certainly want Bishen Bedi to be one.

Subhush Gupte, too, for that matter. And Anil Kumble.

Would Shahid Afridi make an all-time Pakistan X!?

Not as bad as his selection for an all-time England XI but the ommision of Merchant & Mankad certainly are big blunders.

Me and tec arguing rarely gets heated, TBH, I've always respected tec as a poster even if I disagree with him often on which wicket turned, etc.

And no, you hardly ever argue with me. :p You don't often argue in the strongest sense of the word with many people, do you? Same with, for example, Sean Ehlers (archie mac). You're such similar types of guys.

lol, for me, CW is a place to chill out more than anything else and so I sorta try to deliberately avoid heated debates and stuff..... But I have had a fair few of those though... :)

How can any India XI leave out Mankad ?! He was roughly comparable to Bedi and Prasanna as a bowler and a far, far better batsman.

Well yes, but in this case Greig's opinion doesn't make much sense; it would be like picking Willis over Botham or Waqar over Imran.

IMO no, the difference in batting is just too huge relative to whatever advantage in bowling Willis or Waqar may have. The same with Mankad versus Bedi.

Well... I'd argue that Imran > Waqar as a bowler for more of Waqar's career than not. It was only for his first 30-odd games that he was a sensation the like of which has almost never been seen.

And even then he was only a bit better than Imran.
