Be impossible for him to be at every game, but then again, having the coach at the ground is less important than in other sports I guess
Sibley too, plays for Surrey and likes to bash the ball around!Good move, hopefully we'll see the transition of Test players into ODI's. No reason Duckett, Crawley, Pope and Smith shouldn't all play, brave new world.
Maybe, but I'm surprised Smeed's never been given a game.I wonder if Banton might come back into the reckoning, he was picked too soon, but has had a great season in all forms this year, certainly more consistent.
Banton is just better in every way though.Maybe, but I'm surprised Smeed's never been given a game.
I remember Smeed’s decision to be t20 only being generally supported by fans on the old forum I used to post on, not because we agreed with only playing only t20 per se, but because all the indicators were that he could barely hack it in 2nd XI cricket in other forms of the game. I guess it is a far greater danger of losing gigs when you aren’t in form.Banton is just better in every way though.
I think Smeed only playing shortest-form, hasn't really worked. Everyone knows I'm not a fan of KP, and you'd think he would approve of Smeed's move, but he reckons if you are out of form, playing County Championship is sometimes the best way to get your form back.
Smeed didn't even get an hundred gig after a disastrous 2023.
He's hardly in credit as a captain over the last year, especially the 50 over world cup performance. The only thing that doesn't make me universally think he shouldn't be in the role is understanding what Mott's influence was. Who was making the decision that England should bowl first in those games in India? It was a bit like Melchett in Blackadder goes forth.McCullum is certainly right about Buttler being “miserable”. Guy looks like he hates cricket.
Buttler is one of the best examples of my thesis that most international players don’t like cricket very much if at all.
Yeah, anyone that has watched his tv show would know he has the people skills to be a great coach, think he'll lead England one day.Not sure where to put this, but Flintoff has a job now as the England Lions coach, his season coaching the Northern Superchargers seemed quite positive (didn’t really watch this year’s Hundred lol), and I think he genuinely loves working with kids and up and coming talents, so it seems like a sensible first serious job in coaching for him
The level of player he was dealing with in that show was obviously different to what he’ll be dealing with now, but how much of cricket coaching is actual coaching, and how much is mentoring? Perhaps the Lions might actually require a little bit more of the former than the full England job considering a lot of them are kids at the very start of their careers, but even so, it’s not like football where the coach has a much bigger role tactically and the captain’s armband is little more than a formalityYeah, anyone that has watched his tv show would know he has the people skills to be a great coach, think he'll lead England one day.
I read that he and Jos didn’t gel, which is a shame, as our two ATG ODI players. Wouldn’t be surprised if he succeeded McCullum in one or both roles.Yeah, anyone that has watched his tv show would know he has the people skills to be a great coach, think he'll lead England one day.
