Tim Paine

He's probably a two year option, to be forcibly retired when we reclaim the Ashes for Carey/Peirson/Inglis/Whiteman.

It would be difficult to drop him off the back of an OK series, bu tat 33 and scratching together runs, is he really a long term option for the Aussies? As a keeper he is fine but as a batsman, that average is truly flattering. He scratched his way to a couple of scores of 40+ and 30 something and got a fifty. He rarely looked comfortable or fluid. Going in against Philander, Morkel, Rabada and co will be very, very different and I feel he is a walking wicket.

Why not look to invest in someone younger who could be around for the next 5 or 6 years?
What were you watching? He looked excellent whenever he got an opportunity, the issue was he always came in late in the innings when they were just pushing for a declaration and never got the chance to build a big score.

The one time he did come in at an important time was Adelaide 1st Innings and he changed the momentum with an excellent attacking 50, that arguably set up Australia's dominance in the early part of the match.

(He then threw his wicket away with a stupid shot and almost left Marsh out to dry)

Paine definitely didn't look as good at the crease as Carey did the other night until he was run out by that Victorian.

I am hoping Paine sticks around for a while yet. The Redbacks still need Carey too much, at least until Harry Nielsen is ready to take over at Shield level.
