Set Pieces Key To Webhead Win
Richards, Hunter Puts Web Top
With a hard-fought victory over relegation candidates Millwall, the Webbers FC went past Norwich and into the top of the Championship table. Millwall were never dangerous in the Webhead half, but defended well, and the Webbers only created one big chance in the first half - Kerridge's cross that was fumbled along the line by Millwall's Hungarian keeper Fülöp. However, the set pieces became the Webbers' rescue. First, Dave Richards converted a dubiously awarded penalty eleven minutes into the second half, after Malone had crossed into the box and Richards fell without reaching the ball. A free kick from Sriram Gurunathan was headed into the goal by substitute striker Dark Hunter eleven minutes later, doubling the lead, and from then on, the Web dominated, and Malone and Richards had several chances to send the Web into the lead. Kerridge's incessant dribbles gave him the man of the match award, despite refusing to send the ball away, and otherwise it was a drab encounter at the Webbers Stadium.
