The Unpopular Opinions Thread

That's ridiculous. Of course there is just 1 MOTM that's the whole point of the MOTM.

You have a point in that if all 22 players **** the bed, someone will **** the bed less than everyone and will shine relative to the rest. However that's again a statement made ignorant of what sport is. You see that a lot in low level sports. Club games are won by the side that just ****s up less. You literally emerge as champions in club cricket just by not bowling extras, taking catches, and not playing dumb shots.

But as you go up the levels you have more and more intense, competitive, driven, talented individuals emerge and when you get to the final of a ****ing World Cup you're not going to have 22 players **** the bed. You might have a guy like Amla go missing, but for sure you're going to have those Dhonis, Waughs, McGraths and other pressure situation specialists playing and they're the ones who will dominate and that's why they deserve to be held in higher regard for those performances compared to JAMODI bullies.

Definitely one of the most unpopular opinions tho. Mainly because you're just plain wrong :P
Bolded is gist of your post and I had it covered in my original post:

A good performance in a world cup final is no more valuable than performance in a so called JAMODI so long as strength of opposition and playing conditions are of similar difficulty

I will go to war defending this.

Strength and Conditions aren't enough - there is nothing at stake in JAMODIs. Hence the name. Just Another Meaningless ODI

The difference is what is at stake. Take the same two teams on the same pitch and tell them the first game is a warm-up but second game is to be crowned the Best Team In The World and try convincing them the warmup is just as important.

Yeah this is bad from anki here. Surely the test of a player is how they perform vs the best on the biggest stage? That’s why Tendulkar is not as great an ODI player as say Viv or McGrath. The Little Choker had multiple chances to step up when it mattered most on the biggest ODI stage and he flummed it.

It’s the same character flaw which made him an impotent batsman-captain. Couldn’t cut it when it mattered most and onus was on him to step it up. I tried to work through it with him in Mumbai during the 90s, but we didn’t quite get there. Good kid though. Nice bloke.

You have to imagine the immense pressure Sachin was under in a WC Final

Gilchrist and co. wouldn't have even made the walk out the dressing room IMO. Would have pulled a Philander.

Yeah the Australians were never under any pressure because they knew one of their pack would pick up the slack if they failed

Sachin had to carry the weight of the nation on his shoulders and he dragged their unwilling asses to the finish line and collapsed there. WAFG.

Makes that moment after the 2011 WC so special tho, when the whole team got to carry Sachin on their shoulders for a change after winning the final in his home ground

One of the ATG moments in cricket. Was magical

I cried tears of blood in the semi final but it was heartwarming still.

It must have been a wonderful moment for him to know that he’d failed yet again but somehow his team mates had got him over the line.

It's a bit weird how in such a long and illustrious career I can only pinpoint a few iconic innings (Chennai knock, Pakistan 03 WC). Compare this with Viv, Lara, Mcgrath and of course the Don. Still the second greatest batsmen ever but like Bradman's mediocrity on sticky dogs, makes you question him for a bit.

Its because when he was at his best India lost a lot of games due to being ****, and then when India was gun he was no longer the force of nature he once was, and was basically still in the team on reputation and ability to consistently churn out runs without touching the spectacular heights he once did.

tbf to Sachin pull shots of slow-medium, 65kg-weighing trundlers in World Cup finals are hard

I'm sure a lot of people would spoon a catch back to said 65kg-weighing trundler

Chennai knock v Aus in the 98 series was awesome. Completely pwned the supposed greatest spinner evr. Also, big fail for not mentioning the Sharjah twin tons.

He's not Lara, when it comes to memorable knocks but then who is?

You're a bigger man than me, I still haven't got over losing to you lot in last year's CT final
That game ended Ashwin and Jaddu's ODI careers, and as a result has greatly increased our chances in the 2019 WC. So it was not all bad.
