I think when there are so many players there has to be two teams at a time , when it's drawn out like this mistakes happen that can't be pointed out in a timely fashion

I disagree. It's just a lack of awareness of the rules.

Two teams at a time would only make it worse: more picks would pass before mistakes would be spotted. It's not like everyone keeps track of everyone else's teams otherwise.
