International Debutant
Just to show how Smith has tapered off, he was the fastest to 7,000 and 8,000 runs and 2nd fastest to 9,000 runs behind Sangakarra.

He now has 9,685 runs from 195 innings so the best he can do is be 5th fastest to 10,000 if he can get 315 runs within his next 10 innings.

(amazingly the fastest to 10,000 is 195 innings shared by Lara, Tendulker and Sangakara. Ponting is 4th with 196 innings and Dravid 5th with 206)

Obviously Bradman has the biggest gaps in these.

5000 - 56 innings vs 91 (Hobbs)
6000 - 68 innings vs 111 (Sobers, Smith)

Third highest is Sanga

12000 - 224 innings vs 247 (Tendulkar)

Aside from Bradman at 3000 and 4000 there are no other double digit gaps.

Only 12 batsmen aside from Bradman have crossed 4000 runs in their first 80 innings, none reaching 4500. 5 of them are openers. (Gavaskar doesn’t make it)
