The Records and Milestones thread

Only one bowler has taken at least 250 international wickets at an average of less than 21 (Garner 405 at 20.20). Bumrah currently has 216 wickets at 20.72. He could join Big Bird if he maintains his current standards.

That would be an utterly astonishing, mind-boggling feat if he actually managed it in this era of big bats, 350+ scores etc. McGrath and Murali must have come pretty close, I'm guessing? But even they played most of their ODI cricket before it became a bat-fest.

But cumulative cross-format records aren't appreciated that much on here (e.g. Sachin's 100 centuries).

Mcgrath has 949 @ 21.76, Murali an insane 1347@ 22.86. The guy who came really close though was Shane Bond, 259 @ 21.37.

Malinga becomes only player to take 5 hat tricks in international games; only player to take 4 in 4 twice.

Before him, Wasim Akram had 4 hattricks in international cricket

Chris Gayle just scored his 22nd T20 ton. More than double his closest competitor.

Certainly the greatest T20 batsman.

Cross format records are a bit silly really. At the top level ODIs and tests are so different and require different skills. Getting the cross format records basically says that a player is more versatile than anything else. But (for example) Smith in tests and Dhoni in ODIs is going to win you more matches than Tendulkar for both.

David Warner, the first opener to get out for a single-digit score eight times in a Test series

It's funny the extremes on opposite ends the bans have done for Smith and Warner

One looking like the best batsman in history the other looking the worst

How exactly is it a silly stat when the entire point of the record is the versatility of the player. It's like saying bowling averages are a silly stat because all it does is say how good a bowler is.

Never heard of Weekes, Flower, Chanderpaul, Sangakkara or Rahul? Also Smith now solely holds the record for most consecutive fities vs a single opponent, with 10.
All of them didn't score consecutive 50s...

OS will fill you in.
