Weekes averages 74.6 when not injured/struggling with health issues, I think.Weekes average reached 60 in his 7th innings and never went down 60 until his 76th innings! 60+ average for 68 innings!

All these even after Hutton lost his prime years due to War and even injured his hand that it lost some inches and he altered his technique with the abandonment of hook and still succeeded after that! that Temparament is commendable.Hutton also had exceptionally tougher wickets, harder batting role and he faced one of the strongest attacks of all time (the Invincibles) over and over and averaged 57 against them barring his final series. Viv has a higher reputation and was more dominant, the anonymity with which Viv is viewed as the best of his time is absurd.
Yeah, it's kind of crazy what Hutton achieved when he quite literally could not play a high angled Hook shot. All these even after Hutton lost his prime years due to War and even injured his hand that it lost some inches and he altered his technique with the abandonment of hook and still succeeded after that! that Temparament is commendable.
Imagine what would happen if we took out every game where a player had some form of injury. They’d all have pretty stats
I actually am in support of removing injury influenced games tbh considering how often they were played in 50s and 60s, but sadly they're played so little today....Imagine what would happen if we took out every game where a player had some form of injury. They’d all have pretty stats
I mean how do you define an injury or illness? Should all Hutton and Compton’s post-war matches be removed?I actually am in support of removing injury influenced games tbh considering how often they were played in 50s and 60s, but sadly they're played so little today....
wait wtf that's a good thing
Me personally? for Hutton, his hand issue was permanent and could never have been fixed, and he worked around it pretty well but sadly, his 100% at that point was with the hampered hand, so I just acknowledge that he was biologically challenged but take his post war career anyway because the "injury" was a permanent deformity that was with him for the rest of his life even when he was at 100%, I do say he might've been better had he not had that deformity but as they say, It is what it is and most I can do is acknowledge it and I'm a little lenient on his struggles immediately after the war considering he was reinventing his technique. with Compton, his knee issues were recurring and kept flaring up, in 1949-50 and then in 1955 where he just got a surgery to play a couple more years, as you know, I have similar opinions regarding his 1950-51 Ashes as Bill Johnston's 1953 Ashes, but other than that he seemed to be able to play like he always did just with the risk of the injury flaring up again.I mean how do you define an injury or illness? What about Tendulkar?for example, Warne's 1999 Frank Worrell trophy, worst series of his career bar his debut games, clearly influenced by having a severe arm problem.
wasn't he influenced by Tennis Elbow by 6 years? if that was the case, he's in the same thing as Viv and Lara's pterygium/eye issues, sad but became a part of their careers, and wasn't a once-in-many-years one off thing. What about Tendulkar?
“My tennis elbow injury, unfortunately, happened at the beginning of the season (2004-05). I was not even able to hold a bat then” - actual quote from Tendulkar. Who then subsequently had surgery.wasn't he influenced by Tennis Elbow by 6 years? if that was the case, he's in the same thing as Viv and Lara's pterygium/eye issues, sad but became a part of their careers, and wasn't a once-in-many-years one off thing.
I don't really know Indian Cricket lore that well tbh“My tennis elbow injury, unfortunately, happened at the beginning of the season (2004-05). I was not even able to hold a bat then” - actual quote from Tendulkar. Who then subsequently had surgery.
iirc tennis elbow isn’t chronic and shouldn’t persist after treatment and rest but I could be mistakenI don't really know Indian Cricket lore that well tbh
