The great knocks

Rate Snijman, think I said as much in the ICC Intercontinental Cup thread. One of the leading batsmen outside the Test world.

Dusty Lee

Micheal Bevan's innings in the ODI against the West Indies when Australia were in deep trouble and he won the game with a 4 from the last ball and stood in the middle of the pitch raising his bat and his helmet. Great knock. 1994 I think but can't be sure.

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
JL got it in that one didn't he - I think it was because he got runs (70-odd?) in the first innings as well as his ton in the second.

Still harsh on Gilly, one feels.

Thank you for that. :) Was a memorable game, but all the details didn't stick in the memory, I didn't realise we were 9 wickets down, makes it seem even better when you think about it.
That's actually one of the few ODI's which really stick out in my cricket memory too. I remember the Aussies were 6/38 and the WI had absolutely all of the momentum. The quicks were all over the Aussies and as there was moisture in the air, the ball was really skidding onto the bat. Bevvo started hitting the middle of the bat and with Reiffel hitting over the top, it was awesome to watch. I never saw Bevvo, before or after, hit the ball so well through the off-side. Under that pressure, as far as ODI knocks go, the best I personally ever saw.

Oh and Roger Harper sucks for claiming a clear non-catch in that match. Very, very poor form.

I think it was the same match where Phil Simmons took an unbelieveable catch at point to dismiss, I think, Slater.

I was in the Doug Walters stand that night - the atmosphere in the last few overs was amazing.

Post 2000 its is? well amm these would have been the best i've seen or heard about:

NOTE: Criteria for my choices are quality of the oppostion bowling, circumstances the runs where scored under (i.e Hayden & Lara 2001 where they where the only batsmen that stood up to the opposition, or battling to save the test i.e Ponting 05), or if they just battered the oppostion attack regardless of the condition of circumstances or quality of attack (i.e Hayden Brisbane 2002, Sehwag MCG 2003, Multan 2004, Lahore 2006, Astle 2002).

- Laxman 281, Kolkatta 2001

- Lara 221, Colombo 2001
- Ponting 156, OT 2005
- Gilchrist 204, Jo'Burg 2002

Of course there is, but high-quality bowling can be negated, completely, by poor-quality catching. It's essential, if you take account of the quality of bowling, to also note whether dropped catches were involved.
