Well, it took 4 hours but yesterday The Pines tore me to pieces, ate what it wanted, spat the rest out and used my ribs as ****ing toothpicks.

FMD it's a hard course. Strong winds, rough is just full of massive pine trees, so much run on the fairways you ran out of room and even good shots trickled into he water (which encroaches on fairways in spots you can't see). Add to that really fast greens (talking NSWGC fast btw) and it eas fantastic and awe-inspiring - in the same way watching a bloke get wiped out catching a 50 foot wave is.

Yeah it's tough isn't it!? I still remember standing on the back markers on the 10th hole (played it as my first) with water down the right, pine trees on the left and the fairway narrowing right around the point you think you're drive will land and thinking 'Where the **** am I supposed to aim!?'

Is the 200m Par 3 still in play?

It's the hardest course I've ever played I think. Moonah Links would be tough off the back markers too though.

Funny you should mention the 200m par 3 mate. What a great golf hole that is. Generally I don't find water carries all that intimidating, but that one surely is.

We played off the back markers, but the card had the distance at 165, so we pulled out the appropriate clubs for that distance (gauging distance over water isn't that easy imo) bu we were thinking it looked a lot longer.

Turned out it was! The cards were wrong :(

Yeah that length par 3 changes your approach a little doesn't it? I found myself thinking more about making sure I hit it well and carried the distance than worrying about where the hole was. Green is good.

Have you played at Ocean Shores (NSW North Coast)? They have massive greens and I found it threw my depth perception right out (especially when combined with a lake). Found myself hitting it in the middle of the lake on one hole after second-guessing the distance on the markers cause it didn't look that far, hitting an 8 iron very well, and finding out a 5 would've been more appropriate.

Nah mate haven't played there. Mate of mine got married up there but I missed the event unfortunately.

I've heard it's a very good layout, maybe not in as good condition as it could be, though that was some years back now.

One of my personal favourites is Bonville at Coffs Harbour. If you haven't played it, it's really worth the effort - Augusta-type feel to it.

nah, not a good time for me, middle of the night n' all.

Could be a good finish though with Phil having a two-shot lead.:)
it's night for me too...8 pm to 1 am....yeah tiger vs phil is hopefully going to be very exciting...and if both slip, there are people like watney and moore and westwood to take advantage(can't see anyone else winning, can you)....

It's down to those really, don't fancy Moore much. Put money on Watney, so I hope he can pull it off, but it all depends on whether Phil shoots the lights out, very possible he could, but then it's just as possible he'll shoot 80. Tiger still fave obviously.

yeah...i don't think moore can realistically beat that leaderboard but stranger things have happened...tiger hasn't been playing all that well on sundays recently and if lefty goes crazy(and i don't really see an over par score for him today whatever risks he takes), i think he will take it out comfortably...

tiger stagnating...phil extending his lead, a lot of players making moves...westwood, moore, mcilroy, els...

yeah els' screw-up reminded me of dubai a couple of years back when he again put the ball in the water on the 18th going for an improbable green in two from the rough....he was pressured by tiger into that mistake, this time it was phil...if he had played a little more conservatively, he would have finished up with at least a birdie and a record 11 under round and an 18 under total and would have probably won...but mickelson played really well and deserved to take the trophy...that par putt on 16th was tiger-esque...speaking of whom, i have very rarely seen him so out-of-sorts and unfocussed on a sunday...got another top 10 under his belt but he must be kicking himself having messed up royally on the weekend...
