Day Two
Daemon Dong took his third wicket early on the second morning, as he crashed one through Furball's defenses to end the legspinner's cameo. The innings was ended half an hour later when Bruce Force was run out for 10, but not before Deen raised an excellent century, and the visitors' 350.
The home side's innings got off to a promising start as Myheart and Force were seen off. But Smythington-Smythe struck to trap Porterfield lbw for 13, and in his next over the paceman had Mork out to a fine caught and bowled for 18, reducing the innings to 43/2 at the lunch break.
Deen came on to join the pace attack after the break, but narrowly failed to follow suit as he dropped a tricky chance from Jansen off his own bowling. The Czech guest star failed to make the most of a charmed life, as after having also been dropped by Myheart on 10, he lofted a Furball delivery straight to mid off for 29. From there the English pace attack began to dominate proceedings, with Myheart removing Joyce for a duck and Teja attempting to weather the storm on 20* from 101 balls at tea. The score was a vulnerable 112/4.
Nonetheless, Tea and Phlegm built steadily after the break, Phlegm having made 47 before Deen got him lbw, ending a partnership of 93. In the final hour of the day Teja brought up his arduous but valuable fifty, made using over 200 balls. Bharani Dharan couldn't stick with him, becoming Furball's second wicket for 12, and offie Oscar Wood's trundle gave him the wicket of Dong. At 221/7, stumps came with England firmly in the driving seat, with a new ball due in the morning and the prospect of a healthy lead.

Myheart delivered the breakthrough straight away on the third morning, and Johnston nicked him behind in his first over of the day. Two overs later the quick had Murtagh caught in the gully, and for his first ball to Dockrell took an easy return catch. Myheart claimed figures of 3-44, and his team a lead of 119.
Neil Pickup failed to capitalise on the platform, becoming the first dismissed again, this time for 2. Moody announced his arrival at the crease with a second ball six, but the Irish were able to fight back with further new ball wickets. After Murtagh dismissed both opening batsmen to leave the visitors on 26/2, Dong came on at first change and in in first over sent back Moody for 15. England were reeling, but Wood and Robertson managed to make it to the lunch break without further damage.
A disappointed Wood edged Dockrell to slip for 44 towards the mid point of the afternoon, but the partnership had reached 78 and the lead was up to defendable at 230, with six wickets still remaining. Robertson failed to keep the Irish out of it, foolishly run out for 43, and the hosts still had it all to play for going into the final session, with England effectively 284/5.
Ardley and Deen saw to it that that wouldn't happen, notching up fifties and extending the lead past 350 with some belligerent strokeplay. Ardley fell for 75 late in the day - Murtagh taking his third wicket with the new ball - but by then the damage had been done. Stumps came with the score on 279/5, an imposing lead of 398.
