Warm-up Match: Australia vs Invitational XI

The Invitationals won the toss and chose to make first use of a flat surface. They were able to see off the Australians' opening spells and a first wicket stand of 143 was only broken when Thexton David was able to snag both openers at the end of the second session.The legspinner fought a lone hand as his three wickets were the only poles of the opening day, the international side reaching stumps on a dominant 306/3.

Guest batter Marvan Christian rose the first century of the match early on the second day. Though the seamers started chipping away, consistent contributions from the middle order took the score well over 400. By the time Starfighter and Smallman finished off the innings at the tea break, they had amassed 503 all out.

I think I'm going to draft the international players into the two sides to make up the numbers if we don't quite get there.

Things went from bad to worse for the Australians on the second evening as Javali was trapped in front in the first over, and O'Shae Slim nicked off shortly after. With the score on 8/2 Delonge and Duff were able to steady the ship, reaching stumps on 80 as Duff made a composed half-century, but both batsmen were sent back early on the third morning as Kapudia claimed the Australian top four.

Babe Ruthless and Niall McCoinnich came together with Australia 414 behind, and the pair notched up a much-needed century stand to bring Australia back in it. MaCoinnich missed out on his half-century as Heef Davis returned in the afternoon for a fierce second spell which sent back both, but not before Ruthless had made an attacking 84. That left Starfighter alongside the lower order, and the allrounder's unbeaten fifty had avoided the follow-on and made sure all results were still possible by the end of day 3.

Sonny O'Fcoco had made it to day four having taken 1-113 and a golden duck with the bat, so the seamer had something to prove when he started day four by dismissing the Invitationals openers for 6 between them without the assistance of a fielder. The next pair, were forced to weather the storm instead of pushing for victory, only making it to 55-2 off the opening 20 overs. Unfortunately for the tourists, they had to wait for O'Fcoco's second spell for another wicket, and his third spell for the one after that as the lead grew past the 300 mark.

Dian van Jarsveldt became the second guest bat of the match to ton up, but at the other end O'Fcoco had the bit between his teeth and completed a five-wicket haul with the dismissal of Kasinathan. Soon after, van Jarsveldt became the seamer's sixth wicket with the score on 189-6 and a lead of 370 at tea on day four. As a possible declaration loomed, O'Fcoco claimed his seventh by trapping Roome and David was able to rearrange the stumps of two of the tailenders before they could hit out, but they couldn't stop allrounder Evans lifting the lead to 399. At that point the declaration came - 400 in 100 overs being the target.

Jevali and Duff started understandably cautiously as a long innings was needed, but late on the fourth day Davis caught Duff's outside edge and the Australians would have to resume on 23/1, looking to either survive 90 overs or make a bold bid for 377 more runs.

Jevali and Slim oped to take no chances. The pair built an unyielding partnership that was not broken until well after the tea break. After compiling 176 runs in 75 overs, Roome finally got the breakthrough in the same over that Jevali became the first Australian to ton up, and Slim followed suit half an hour later with the draw settled in all but name. The captains shook hands on a game where neither side could dislodge the other.
