The FINAL- South Africa vs India (D), Kensington Oval, Barbados-- June 29th

Hopefully everyone who needs to get out of there safely already has; I don't think anyone had "Category 4 hurricane going through the area in the first week of July" on their planning list (because it's never happened before in the historical record)
Yeah, about that...

Hope everyone stays safe there. This is a genuinely historic storm; to have anything this strong, this far east, in early July is utterly unprecedented.

My BIL is in Jacksonville (thoughts and prayers, my god what a **** hole) with his family atm and they sent us footage from their balcony of a ****ing tornado the other day. Terrifying stuff.

It certainly looked like the rope moved to me, on first viewing. But whining about the results in the finals of major international cricket competitions is for the weak minded.
It's actually great. Now India has to carry an asterisk around.

Salthill?
Great name that lol.

The finals pitch was almost perfect for SA as it totally negated the spinners which India relied on heavily. And great for batting. Batting-wise they could have totally out-powered India on the deck.

Indian pace: 11 overs 58 runs 7 wickets
Indian spin : 9 overs 108 runs 1 wicket

Obviously not this

Well done to India on finally winning something after a decade of hurt

South Africa are botting jobbers
So SA are robots okay go it.
So how many MBEs will the Dodgers get this time, some batters made a few plucky 30s thats normally enough

Whatever it takes!!!
I think RSA were well on their way to being very deserving winners and we were lucky to have won in the end, even allowing for how well our pacers bowled and how well we fielded. Very unfortunate to not be world champions right now, but hopefully their time will come in the future.

Such a great WC. 55 games, 20 teams, so many upsets, pitches that kept the lower ranked sides in the games, variety of conditions and pitches that helped seamers, spinners and batters. I dont feel it really makes up for last year or the 50 over WC but in some ways, this feels like a more complete and rounded triumph. So proud of our boys.

And best of all, I was in a flight watching streaming with wifi and the applause after we won was just 😍. A very memorable moment.

I'd like to see this lineup going forward

Jaiswal
Abhishek
Gill
Sky
Pant
Rinku
Pandya
Axar
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Arshdeep
As much as I love Pant, not sure we can ever expect him to be consistent enough in these formats. I had expectations from him up the order but his style of play is too unpredictable to be reliable. He had an extended run at 3 this WC but fluctuated wildly between looking great and doing Hail Mary-type things. Impossible to tell if he's out of form or just being himself. Maybe we can afford one wild card like that with all the talent around him and given his keeping...?

Im also uncertain about him but there aren't any other wk options who can bat at 150+ SR as well as keep well. However, his time at no.3 is definitely up.

Jaiswal and Abhishek the destructors up top and then Gill the stablizer, then SKY, Pant, Rinku and Pandya to continue the onslaught and finish things off. On the bowling front, the same 5 primary bowlers and instead of Jadeja as the 6th bowling option to bowl 1-2 overs, Abhishek can be used. He is pretty handy bowler and may be useful in the next home wc in 2026.
