To be fair we were without Watt, Dobson and Bennett. But it seems as though you guys will fit in nicely to the Dev League - I don't expect many whitewashes.

Lol thanks mate, to me you've just turned your reputation completely around (Y).
Anywhoo, we don't hope for whitewashes, naturally, but of course it's fair that we'll experience a few during the season. Of course, the boys are quite positive about the Dev League, and even if we are creamed it's all in good fun. :)

We didn't have Wright, Rob ... both teams were missing some of their better players. Yet another start for me, but great strike rate with 42 off 29 balls

Yeah, all the top players got a start, pity none of them could continue on...

Nah actually, you guys have so far been much better than I thought.
Their performances have only further gone to confirm my worst fears regarding sign-ups...

Considering experience points have been put in place, I don't think there's much to worry about anymore. Especially given that people who originally started the Dev League signed up with similar stats as those signing up now.

Still, it would be nice if there was a set system regarding signups - not because rookies are as a whole outperforming (a few of them should be expected to do so in a domestic competition with so few players in comparison to domestic competitions with hundreds of players and that have been around for dozens upon dozens of years, some of them even longer), but more so because it would be nice for all rookies to start out with an equal chance of doing well.

EDIT: Marc, I noticed you haven't posted in the thread recently, so the details are found in here: http://forum.cricketweb.net/showthread.php?t=11836

It's understandable that they're only doing one of the two proposed things per season (the two being: 1) experience points and 2) signup restrictions) as if you do two things at the same time, it's possible that overcompensation could become a factor. As Liam has stated that they are, however, looking to put a signup system into place, I hope this season won't be tainted by comments about rookies. It was shown last season that any team is fully capable of doing well, and as Black beat us in the recent FC game (which only had one experience player in our team) by a 181 run margin, you could just as easily say that it further goes to prove that your worst fears are not justified at the moment.

The team for the first game against the Reds has been selected.

Please keep in mind those that missed out were very close to selection, with all players considered. Jack will send out an email to the team to outline the reasons for selection etc.

Good luck to everyone in the side. And I look forward to seeing encouragement from those who missed out.

Come on, we beat you in a game which you guys should have won, missing a few of your best players, and suddenly your worst fears have come to fruition?

I mean, in the end, if you want to keep people interested in CW XI, you can't have people signing up to find that they're going to average 49 with the ball and 12 with the bat, there just isn't much enjoyment to be had there, especially for those who join the forums just for the CW XI stuff. But at the same time, you can't have us young'uns winning trophies with ease. It's a tough balancing act, and it's not as though we're going to dominate - once form and true class come to the fore, then things will probably get sorted out. But if we have to put up with "Damn rookie bias" every time we win a game, then it's really not doing anything for anyone.

From now on, I'm calling you 'Howler', just so you know. :p Much like Comley/Cometer is Comet and OJ. Cook is Simpson.
Thats fine, maybe we could institute a team ritual where I howl like wolf from the roof of a stand when we win. I was also thinking I might start getting my butler to carry my bat to the wicket for me. :whip:
