The Colts Thread

Not a good round for most Colts today, but Bharat managed a nice 61 off 100 balls in her OD game and Pares stood up with the bat, scoring 51* off 59 while picking up a single wicket in T&T. Thomas managed to get back into things with 4-74 in his first innings of the latest FC round in Aussie, but the second innings wasn't nearly as successful, picking up two wickets at the expense of 145 runs. The game ended in a draw.

Would like to announce that I'm stepping down from the Colts leadership group. I became disillusioned at the informality of selection, inconsistent policies, and haphazard attitudes towards what constituted a selection committee member. I also often felt compromised in making decisions by the fact that I was always a fringe player in the team. I'm proud to say that if anything, I marked myself harder than anyone else and was always one of the first to push for my rival spinners to get a game, either ahead or alongside of me.

I would request, however, that I am allowed to maintain my role as co-ordinator of the CW Colts awards, as presenter and non-voting member of the awards panel.

That's so gutted, although for a moment there I thought you were saying you were going to leave the Colts altogether, which would have sucked ass. But I'm glad you're staying with the team and I hope you do stay on as the awards guy, you do a fantastic job imho

Disapointed you feel that way, and wish you had of brought that up with us, as we don't know how you feel unless you tell us. However, really pleased you're staying on as a Colts player and we'd be more than happy for you to remain in the role of Colts award organiser.

Yeah, pretty much echo Kyle's thoughts and feelings really. Any chance you can send us an email with specifics? Some good old constructive criticism can never go far wrong. :)

Relieved to see you're still with us, though - and you're definitely more than welcome to carry on with the awards and any other activities you have up your sleeve as far as I'm concerned.

Preseason training starts this week for those players not involved in offseason cricket. Would love for all the players to give a summary of their offseason performances and their goals for the upcoming season.

I'll kick things off...

I have been looking for consistency in the offseason and have been fairly pleased with my performances thus far. Picked up a 5-fer the other day, and was pleased with that.

For next season I really want to re-establish myself in the one day team, was extremely disgusted with my one day performances last season. I'd also like to be a lot more consistent in the first class games. I let the team down last season and left too much on the shoulders of Thomas (who stood up amazingly). Although the chances are slim would love to get myself back into the international sides.

As far as the team goes, would like to see us win a lot more games. We were great in the first quarter of the season when most of the teams were missing their big guns, but really struggled when all teams were at full strength. Hopefully we can pick up some good batting rookies that will give us more depth, especially after the loss of Fitzsimmons.

Carve out a regular place in both the first class and one day sides, which I didn't do too well in last season. More centuries would be nice too, while I was consistent with the bat I only had one century all last season.

My off-season has been fairly decent, if a bit inconsistent. This coming season, I would like to play more first-class cricket, and improve on my one-day bowling in terms of economy.

I hope to improve my economy a bit in First Class cricket, while if we play Twenty20 this season, I'd like to be a starter in that as I've done pretty well in the KFC Cup for Victoria (y)

When doesd the next season start?

For next season my goals are pretty much team orientated, just hoping i can help us win an alusive title. Personally i'd like to take a few more wickets than last season.

My off-season form has been far too inconsistent over all forms, one minute I'm scoring stacks of runs and then I'm not, one minute I'm taking a bunch of wickets and then next getting carted without picking anything up. It's quite frustrating really! Overall, the numbers are decent but not good enough. So I hope I can improve on them a bit more, anyway.

Next seasons goals are to do a good job for the team whenever I'm given a game, anything that will help us win some silverware.

My main hope is to see the Colts in two top two at the end of the season. We should be pushing for silverware, that's for certain. A big blow to lose Fitzy but our squad is now rather experienced and should be up for it. With quality star players such as Butler, Wilson, Thomas, Wright and Jaso we don't have many excuses.

Personally, I'd like to have an FC season average closer to 50. It might be a big ask but I think it's a standard that I need to move towards. 1,000 runs wouldn't hurt, either!

I want to just get some good gametime in with a lot of centuries in the shorter game. Maybe I'll someday get my first List-A wicket, too... but with the bowling talent finally coming through this season (it better!) hopefully I won't even have the chance! Haha.

Well, top 2 has to be the goal, no slacking allowed. Anything less is unacceptable.

I'd like to get another 1000 runs with a strike rate of 100+ and more 100s then 50s.

I'm also looking to lead the Wicketkeeper dismissals.

Griffen, wherever you are, you still need to sign into the Season XIII sign-in thread.

On a similar note, I sadly have to announce that Bharat has spoken to me about her chances of playing in the next season and it's looking like we'll be without her talents as a batswoman and backup wicketkeeper. With this in mind, I'm interested to know which batsmen would be interested in taking on the backup wicketkeeper role. I think we have pretty limited options and if I happen to be the best fielder out of the lot of us then I'll do it. I'm just not sure - I think I signed up with a fielding rating of 18 or 21. Kerr, Griffen, Dasa and Butler - What are yours?

And now for an update on what's going on in the offseason... just a small one this time.
Jaso continues to top 4D & OD runscoring, by a significant margin now, although Butler is a long way behind in innings played and could yet threaten him. Towns is second in both forms, with Kerr third in OD and Griffen third in 4D. The highest average in both forms also goes to Jaso, largely thanks to his last five scores in both forms of: 168 (4D), 172* (OD), 56 & 58 (4D) and 52 (OD). Butler is second in both forms in this area, and is also the fastest scorer in OD while Kerr is fastest in 4D.

For bowling, Kyle is top of the table for 4D wickets with his 48 @ 23.96. Thomas is second on 37 @ 28.73, with Jack and Weber both also keeping their averages low with 34 @ 25.35 and 33 @ 24.94 respectively.

OD bowling isn't looking very good, one has to say. Thomas' 20 overs are the only bright spot at the moment, picking up 3 @ 23.67 with an economy of 3.55 - but we'll have to see if he can hold that together consistently as this is just for a couple of games. Nick, Pares, Rai and Wright have all managed to pass 10 wickets and Bochat is on 9 @ 30.22, our second best average. Nick is top wicket taker with 16 @ 31.81.

Notable recent figures (aside from the already mentioned scores by Jaso)...
Kerr: 97* (105) in OD
Hancock: Last four 4D scores of 92, 5, 62* and 72. Last OD score 70* (72).
Wright: Last three 4D bowling innings: 3-67, 5-62, 1-32.
Bharat: 68 in her most recent batting innings.
Das: 112* (114) in his recent OD innings, his first century this offseason (8 4D 50's, 2 OD 50's).
Griffen: 101 in his second most recent 4D innings, and after his run of 96, 55, 103*, 10 and 79 his OD innings have fallen off with 11 and 15.
McNamara: Last three 4D bowling innings: 3-90, 4-29, 3-81.
Pares: Got 5-73 in his third most recent 4D innings.

Finally I'm beating Thomas at something. Mind you it's in a weaker competition. But, I'll take it.

My one day form hasn't been that bad actually. Quite pleased with it, especially compared to last season.

Quoted for the sheer oddity of it.
