The Colts Thread

On a sidenote, I still need shirt numbers for Shah (Butler got 99, having signed for Colts earlier than Shah), Thomas, Malthus and Bharat.

EDIT: We're in the unusual position of having too many in-form FC openers. Malthus, Hopgood and Fitzy have all performed admirably while opening in preseason matches.

Fair ratings imo. Pretty disappointed with my first innings in particular...ducks can happen, but getting a start and getting out is poor. Looking forward to a better show in the OD.

Player ratings for OD game against Red

S Jasotharan: One day games are certainly up 'Jaso's' alley. The controversial wicketkeeper/batsman continues to impress with his early season form. It was clear to all that 'Jaso' had an early appointment with the Pickford Reserve Barman as he treated the Red attack like U/13s. This innings will give Jasotharan plenty of confidence heading into the season. 10/10

D.P. Towns: Towns could only take a back seat to the Jasotharan show, however he had his moments of entertaining the crowd. He was given a 2nd chance when he was out on a no-ball. His 34 runs came from 42 balls and he ensured that 'Jaso' could hit away at the other end knowing Towns was keeping the score ticking when he wasn't on strike. Towns is in the form of his life, let's hope it continues into the season proper. 7/10

A.S. Das: 'Dasa' is a new man when a white ball is bowled at him. He strode to the crease at the fall of Towns looking like a Knight who knew he was going to slay his dragon. He started confidently and his innings flourished as it went on. His 36 runs came from 46 balls. This innings will give 'Dasa' plenty of confidence after his disapointing return in the first class warm-ups. 7/10

C.R. Butler: Mr Butler looked a different man at the crease today. Clearing his heads of his first class warm-up disapointments he broke free of the shackles and looked fluent in his 21 run 20 ball innings. He stated during the week that he was building his form, and that is certainly what he is doing. 7/10

S. Fitzsimmons & P. Bharat: Unfortunately the impressive performance by the Colts didn't allow 'Fitzy' or Bharat to get any time at the crease in this match. They will be looking for some time at the crease for the next match.

M.W. Wilson: Wilson had a good run out in this one day match. Not too much to write home about in the match, but he was overshadowed by Wright and Hancock. There will be times during the season that Wilson will cast shadows, that is without doubt. 4/10

T. Bochat: Bochat's 10 overs were very impressive. Bowling primarily in the middle overs, he was very economical and looked dangerous at times. Very impressive. 5/10

D.K. Rai: Rai had the tough task of being the only spinner on show for the Colts. However, Rai performed very well. Although he went at close to 5 an over he picked up the valuble wicket of Dobson. 5/10

N.R. Hancock: Hancock has been one of those young players that has been around for a long time. Is this the year that it clicks for Hancock? Will he finally become a consistent player the Colts have invested in for the past few seasons? The answers will come over the next few months, but the early signs are very promising for Hancock and the Colts need his allround abilities to shine this year to be a super force. His four wickets today ensured the Red tail didn't build a total that became too tricky for the Colts batsman. 10/10

K.S. Wright: For a very long time the Colts' skipper struggled in the one day game. However, since the start of the previous season, Wright has used the white ball with magical effect. He has matured as a bowler and this has been shown with his consistency of taking new ball wickets in the one day game. Another fine perfromance from the skipper in this game, showed the Colts' fans have a lot to cheer about this season. 10/10

An unfamiliar dilemma...

CW Colts Opening - 5 Day Matches - Preseason games
JB Malthus - 7 innings, 449 runs @ 64.14, 4x 50s, 1x 100, HS 135 against Colts.
SG Fitzsimmons - 10 innings, 564 runs @ 56.40, 3x 50s, 2x 100s, HS 119 against Green.
MR Hopgood - 9 innings, 586 runs @ 65.11, 3x 50s, 2x 100s, HS 121 against Colts.

Note that the scores against Colts are for games between two Colts sides, and Hoppy's scores includes those played for the U-19's.

Two opening positions, three players in form!

PFFT. Not even a question. Just promote Hancock to open. Pure class, that fella.
And, if ya dont mind me saying, that's a genuinely good dilemma to have! Three batsmen in form, one of them a rookie... looks promising :)

Our entire batting lineup is firing, not just the openers, it's quality.

Kyle's form in One Day has been so unbelieveable for the last season or so, it's totally awesome. No one can touch him when he bowls like that, it's epic stuff. We're all playing really well together, totally pumped for the season proper.

That is a dilemma.

Sorry about my lack of activity, have had unforseen stuff going on the last couple of weeks.

Could I have the shirt number 69 again please?

its good to have competition for spots, should keep the guys in the team to start with on their toes and hopefully a big start to the season from the batting line up will set us up nicely...

Towns do we have a full set of player numbers for the club yet?
Waiting on Shah to give a new number and for Bharat and Thomas to decide on their numbers. Geg won't be around anytime too soon, I'd imagine, so I'll look through this thread to see if we ever did this beforehand and if so, what he chose.

EDIT: Nope, never did this before now, it seems.
