Here's what you've all been waiting for...

[Neil Pickup] Good evening everyone, and welcome to the Twybridge Memorial Hall for the CricketWeb Black end-of-season awards. I'm pleased to that the delaying announcing our range of awards has been down to drawn-out negotiations with sponsors, the desire for maximum ticket sales from all of CWLand, and nothing whatsoever to do with my endemic laziness.

The bars open will remain open for the next ten minutes, and once again at the interval, and there is special provision thanks to Robinson's Drinks, official purveyors of CricketWeb Black's matchday refreshments, of non-alcoholic beverages for our younger guests. That means you too, Kearsley.

Now, on with the show, and to introduce our first award of the night, it's someone whose face will be familiar to anyone who's followed the national side in the last decade - and a man who starred in the Black XI last season before his retirement, Richard Twyman!

[Richard Twyman] Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. To kick off the evening, we'll be presenting the Arriva Trains Award for contribution with the bat during season eight. Whilst Chris Butler has played an important role at the top of the order in both forms of the game, Chris Loc has made a superb impact in the shorter form of the game, the award will be going to go to a young player who has been, just like Arriva Trains, reliable and dependable when needed most throughout the season. In a batting order that has often been prone to collapses, he's shone as a beacon of stability - culminating in a call-up to the Test XI for the final two games of the summer. It's David Kearsley!

Now, for the next award of the night, I hand over to a present Black member, one who has made an impressive impact off the field this season with the editorship of the new Weekly Times, it's Andrew Ferd!

[Andrew Ferd] Thank you, thank you. Now we move on to the Kitchen Devil bowling award, an area where we'd be foolish to pretend that there is any real argument over who's in line for the honour. Whilst the experienced spin pairing of captain Neil Pickup and Dave "Gilo" Richards and the youthful exuberance of Mike Wilson and Callum Thompson all played their part, there was one man who stood out above everyone else.

One of the most experienced seamers in the whole country, and yet one repeatedly passed over by the national selectors - perhaps due to the rebel tour that followed his original selection - this year he was ignored no longer. Finally achieving a recall following a season's toil with the new ball in the five-day tournament, it's now time for an extra layer of icing on top of an already loaded cake, for a man who's been as incisive as Kitchen Devil's award winning range of knives, it's Sangrah Bhatia!

[Neil Pickup] That's half-time in our awards extravaganza for the evening, don't forget the drinks promotions at the bar, thanks to our generous sponsors, Robinson's!

Welcome back to the CricketWeb Black Awards Evening, it's time for the final two awards of the night. Next on the agenda, I'd like you all to welcome... er, Marc, sit down please, the bar is closed during presentation. You know that. No, that's not Elvis, Dauth's just having a bad hair day. Can we continue now, please? Right, where were we? Yes, I'd like you all to welcome the player with the most first class apperances in the whole country, both a role model and source of constant batting-average/iron-glove based amusement to all, it's Peter Young.

[Peter Young] Can never resist a cheap joke, can you Neily?

[Neil Pickup] You'd have been disappointed had it been any other way. Besides, I did out-score and out-average you against South Africa.

[Peter Young] Okay, okay, we get the picture. I got jaffas and you got pies. Now, on with the show. The Vauxhall Vivaro award for outstanding contribution to the CW Black cause, both on and off the field. Someone who, like the Vivaro, just keeps on running... who writes this?

[Neil Pickup] Just get on with it, if we'd wanted you for your comedy value we'd have just played clips from the World Cup. Be thankful the deal with Sun-in fell through.

[Peter Young] Fine... the award goes to one of the newer members of the Black team, who has already established himself as part of the institutional furniture at the SCG, fulfilling the role of vice-captain thrust upon him early in the seaon with aplomb, and thrusting himself into contention for a place in the national setup with a series of miserly bowling performances and gritty lower-order efforts. It's Dave "the Taxman" Richards!

[Neil Pickup] Right, that's enough of that, Mr Young. I'd already warned you about attempting humour - his nickname is clearly "Gilo". Now off-stage and back to your White Lightning.

It's now time for the final award of the night, and also the most prestigious. In association with Woodworm, the CricketWeb Black player of the season award - a fine twelve-inch trophy, in addition to a year's full sponsorship from the company, goes to a player who's made as big an impact in CWLand as the Woodworm Wand has on International cricket.

I'm sure everyone's got their own opinions on who deserves this award - you've heard plenty about our star performers so far tonight - but I don't think there will be really any dissenting voices when I open the envelope. It's... Chris Hinton.

[Silence]

[Neil Pickup] O-K. Someone clearly has either no comprehension of the phrase "player of the season" or has a particularly warped sense of humour. That or it's a certain "wicket-keeper" "batsman" looking to get one back. He won't find it so funny when he finds out what was actually in the White Lightning. Apologies to Halsey, but collateral damage happens in war, and I felt it was an acceptable price to pay.

Anyway, now that the correct envelope has been retrieved from Mr Young's unconscious body, it gives me great pleasure to announce, this year's player of the year is... Mike Wilson!

Okay, okay, thank you one and all for being with us tonight at the awards. Thanks once more go to Arriva, Kitchen Devil, Vauxhall, Woodworm and of course Robinson's, and congratulations once more to all our award winners tonight.

Good luck to all during the off-season, and see you in season nine!
