There is a Lot of Depth in Aussie Cricket between the Ages of 27-35.... in fact it the best of all time players like Hodge, Law and Love would get into the England Team this is Australia Stength. But after that they only 3 good Cricketers Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Nathan Hauritz and they have all played for Australia at one day level but it pretty sad that No other have come though.......... having said that England have the Same problem
Chris, with all due respect I don't think you know enough about Australian domestic cricket to judge the future.

There are a number of excellent prospects, it's just that at this stage they are not good enough to make the national team - and again, there are no places open.

Rest assured, the future of Australia cricket is in very safe hands.

Elliot and Hodge have to at least be considered, because they are performing brilliantly as individuals, regardless of the fact Victoria are number 1 in the Pura Cup these two have been outstanding. Sure Elliott had his chance but so did Hayden and Martyn, that's how cricket goes. Players improve, Elliott has and though the Australian side is a very strong unit now Hodge and Elliott must be pushing for selection. Hodge had 3 100s and 3 50s in the ING Cup, yet he's not close to the ODI side, not even close. He should at least be in contention.
I'm not saying players can't improve.
Personally I've always though very, very highly of Elliott especially. The point is, however, after Hayden and Martyn had done their stuff in domestic cricket, Blewett and Langer were performing poorly enough to lose their places. Name someone out of these whose recent performances have been poor:
Langer, Hayden, Ponting, Lehmann, Katich.
None. The only player who has a remote chance of being dropped is Martyn, and I can hardly see Langer returning to the middle-order. There is no question of Elliott batting there. If Martyn's failures continue Love will surely have first claim on a place, then it might go to Hodge.
Interstingly, all of Katich, Love and Hodge have been Durham's number-three in recent years. Strange how these things work-out...

Give Hauritz credit Richard, he did bowl the other week.

I think North might slightly down the pecking order. If Ponting got injured, I would imagine they would pick Love as it his best spot.

Exactly - he bowled!
Hauritz has yet to bowl well in international cricket. His record is poor enough as it is, and it's even worse if you take away his Kenya 10-39-4.
What brilliant opposition that was against.

Australian Cricket has amazing depth. So many up and comers.

Im a huge fan of Mark Cleary, I feel he will be a very decent cricketer and IMO could make it to national level easy in years to come. He has proved he is capable of getting wickets for Australia A, he just has to take the next step when people like Mc Grath, Gillespie and co retire. Shoot me down if you wish, its only my opinion.

North is also a good future prospect, however would have to step it up a little more in my opinion, a little too inconsistant.

Does anyone else rate Cleary?

on that Gillespie and Warne wouldn't be there
Except they've proven themselves before injuries.

Watson will play in time I think, but I'm still not sold on his bowling to rate him as an all-rounder.

We don't take under-19 cricket seriously in Australia - we only start to take it seriously once people reach the big boys arena.

Off the top of my head, some of the better talents are:

Shaun Tait
Scott Meuleman
Phil Jaques
Mark Cosgrove
Shaun Marsh
Dominic Thornely
Marcus North
Craig Philipson
Chris Hartley
Mark Cleary
Xavier Doherty
Beau Casson
Damien MacKenzie
Mitchell Johnson
Allan Wise
Andrew McDonald
Adam Crosthwaite
Tim Paine
Chris Simpson
David Cullen
Ben Cameron.

IMO anyone who does take it that seriously is heading for a fall.
One of the problems with England in recent years has been "we've done well at U19 level, why is county cricket so poor".
The fact is, there is so much disparity in ages (and at that age 17 to 19 does make a huge difference) that it's not really a concrete indicator of ability.

hehe thats closer to 20 than 10 :P - and jaques shouldn't be there (and hes 24, so not that young)

the better 10 would probably include (from what ive seen on TV and a couple of Pura cup games and heard from others)

North
Meulman
Thornley
Tait
Paine
Hartley
Simpson
Philipson
Doherty
Cosgrove

I would say that North, Thornley and Tait are a good shot at the next WC squad - they have put in some good performances at FC and List A level already and look very good prospects fo mine.

I wouldn't be so sure. Love has slipped down the pecking order after a bad season (apart from the 300, which was ages ago and he hasn't done much since).

I think Love being left out of the squad was more of a wake up call to him. I wouldnt say he is out of the picture and totally out down the pecking order.

The 10 that I would rate at potential international cricketers are:

Tait, Rofe, Hartley, North, Rogers, Inness, Moss, Mitchell Johnson, Casson and David Hussey
