I doubt very much if Australia will play two spinners
at Adelaide.
I'm not sure Hogg will worry the Indian batsmen ....he'll be good in a short spell i.e in ODI cricket, but I suspect India would take
to him in tests once they have a good look at him.
I think Hogg would be exposed in a test match by a good quality batting lineup.
Mcgill didn't really trouble India -- not that anyone was expecting him to in any case.
Steve Waugh is a battle hardened campaigner who knows India through and through. He's well aware of the fact that none of Australia's spinners are likely to worry India.

From India's point of view, Sadogopan Ramesh would be quite a
good counter to Nathan Bracken with the new ball.
Sehwag defintely has problems facing Bracken early on, but having seen Nathan in pura cup games for NSW, he does struggle to move the ball away from the left hander.
Ramesh looks to be in pretty good form (based on the leadup games) and the last time he played at Adelaide he saw off the new ball quite well (against a better new ball attack in Fleming and Mcgrath) but threw his wicket away when settled.
People will point to Ramesh's lack of footwork but I don't think his technique is any worse than Sehwag's and he's certainly far more judicous in his shot selection.

Well the Aussies have picked the same 12......I do hope Williams gets a go at the expense of Andy Bichel, who had a terrible TVS cup and a terrible first test.

It is difficult to judge MacGill's effectiveness on the gabba pitch - at least, THAT Gabba pitch. I feel he does have the capacity to trouble India's batsman, but we'll see.

I'm not sure Brad Williams has done enough to get back in. He's picked up 4 wickets so far in the Pura Cup match but Tasmania have taken him for a ride, and they're not the greatest batting side. At least on Pura Cup form in comparison with Andy Bichel, Bichel came off a 10 wicket haul.
Add to this Williams is bowling in Perth.

Yet you could cast an eye down their batting lineup and say 'pass' for most of them.

I have a great deal of respect for Cox - when he goes to England.
Dighton I would 'pass' - before seeing that OD innings he played earlier this season. Nevertheless, he would hardly be frightening to bowl to for good bowlers. He's not an overly aggressive batsman yet he tends to lose his wicket early on.
Di Venuto comes in fits and starts. I've not seen him do anything absolutely devastating (though I know he can play the long innings with the pressure on i.e. versus NSW).
Watson impresses me the most. I think he is test material, but he's got a way to go. The problem with his batting is he hasn't played a really long innings yet. Although he is most certainly very impressive.
Now when you match that to Hussey, Rogers, Goodwin, North (given the form they are all in, too)...

Anyway, on the 5 bowlers thing, it just seems like a good idea to me. Especially since it would include 4 pacemen.
And Katich hasnt really fullfilled his bowling duties anyway. He only bowled 2 overs (and they went for 16). And its not as if we need him to bat, we have 6 specialist batsmen, a couple of whom can bowl a bit too, how many more do you need?
